If the answer to these questions is yes, then we have a fantastic opportunity for you to join the Finance Directorate at North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
The role will provide comprehensive financial management advice and expertise to managers across the Paramedic Emergency Services and Integrated Contact Centres. This includes providing financial input to support service development decisions, leading the annual budget setting process and supporting in the delivery of productivity and efficiency developments.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a wide range of leadership skills and behaviours to ensure good governance, strong financial management and business acumen is embedded not just within the Management Accounts team but across the organisation.
Main duties of the job
Provide proactive financial leadership, advice and information to budget holders to deliver balanced budgets, support on key change projects, benchmarking and tenders.
Lead on the delivery of the month end financial position, encompassing trust reserves and the efficiency programme, monitoring actual and forecast performance against the financial plan. Lead on the management and development of next year’s budget, capturing all cost pressures and efficiency plans. Deliver internal and external reporting requirements ensuring reports are accurate, timely and relevant.
Lead and nurture the management accounts team to fulfil their roles and promote a culture of continuous and quality improvement, encouraging finance staff development and best use of resources and systems to deliver efficient and quality outputs.
Working for our organisation
North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.
Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.
Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.
We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

- CCAB qualified with evidence of at least 2 years post qualification experience
- Degree (Honours) or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience Experience of managing a team
- Demonstrable recent CPD
- Substantial experience of working in finance including knowledge, experience and expertise in a finance management role including budgetary control, forecasting and financial planning
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and a sound understanding of computerised ledger systems
- To have an in depth and specialist knowledge of financial management and accounting procedures, understand and interpret financial legislation and DH/NHS specific policies
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in NHS finance
- Knowledge of current NHS accounting principles and procedures
- Understand the NHS and identify opportunities to improve the services provided
