Newham University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group is looking for 1 full or part time Substantive Consultant Physicians in Acute and General Medicine. These posts are Royal College of Physicians approved.
Newham University Hospital is one of three acute Hospitals within Barts Health. You would be joining a friendly and growing team of Consultant Physicians with a variety of Internal Medicine backgrounds. The post holder will have the option of up to a 50:50 split with a specialty interest (subject to prior discussion with second specialty). A specialty interest is not essential and this post is also suitable for acute physicians. We also have within our team expertise in the use of ultrasound to enhance acute care (FAMUS, FUSIC and POCUS).
Main duties of the job
Acute Medicine at Newham University Hospital offers an exciting opportunity to join a service that is growing to develop new models of working and services that support the needs of our patients attending the hospital with medical issues, as well as being linked through Barts Trust to all specialties. The post includes inpatient care on the Acute Assessment unit (Stratford ward), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and supporting care within the medical take when on-call with a focus on weekday day take.
A new wing has just opened (May 2024) that includes new Medical, and Critical care wards as well as new Consultant offices, kitchens and meeting rooms. The Acute Medicine ward is nearer to the Emergency department since relocation and has an adjoining Consultant office.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As well as lead roles and responsibilities, fully funded formal leadership training that ranges from short courses to MSc. or MBA will be made available to our substantive appointees through our NHS apprenticeship scheme.
You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council with a license to practise and be on the Specialist Register, CESR (completed) or within 6 months of CCT.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCP or Equivalent Specialist qualification
- Full GMC Registration with license to practice
- Entry on the GMC Specialist register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of date of advisory appointments committee via one of the following: a. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) )
- Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
- European Community Rights
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of participation in research (peer reviewed publications etc.)
- A higher degree (MD,PhD)
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Higher specialist training in Specialty Interest and General Internal Medicine or Acute Medicine
- Current ALS certificate
- Broad experience in Specialty and GIM/Acute Medicine
Desirable criteria
- Experience in Ambulatory care
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
- GIM and of the specialist skills required for this post
- Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning
