Main duties of the job

We are looking for highly motivated leader to join our Paediatric G4 SUN team.  G4 is an 17-bed regional surgical, urological and nephrology ward, specialising in a whole range of surgical, urology and nephrology conditions including renal dialysis, tumour resection, major bladder and bowel surgery.  The ward treats children from birth up to 18 years old.  G4 also includes our paediatric haemodialysis unit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide professional nursing leadership at ward/unit level and work with the Matron to enhance nursing practice and strategy.
Undertake nursing bleep holding responsibilities within designated area.
Facilitate evidence-based care and act as a clinical expert at ward/unit level.
Evaluate the relevance of changes in clinical practice and then support and facilitate implementation in the clinical area.
Be a role model for all and contribute effectively to inter-professional   team working.
To be responsive and to address patient’s concerns at an early stage.

Person specification

Qualifications, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria
  • 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register Management Course (or equivalent)
  • Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor
  • Degree or working towards
  • Completion of appropriate specialty Course
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice.  Supporting a range of learners in practice  Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Extensive experience in specialty to include considerable experience at Band 6 level
  • Evidence of clinical leadership ability
  • Proven management experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of utilising evidence in practice
  • Logical and consistent career pattern
  • Expert clinical skills
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives
  • Ability to work flexible hours and fulfil service requirements
Desirable criteria
  • Management Course (or equivalent)
  • Experience as an NMC sign off mentor or clinical practice assessor
  • Evidence of staff development and succession planning
  • Completion of appropriate specialty Course Broad range of post registration experience
  • Experience of report writing
