Main duties of the job

We are looking for a conscientious hard-working, team player to join our team in the UEL Warehouse. Good IT Skills and communication skills will be essential for this role. It is essential that you can organise your workload in a logical way, such as loading the vehicle for multiple end-users (different areas of the Hospital).

Each day will vary, often switching between tasks throughout the day to meet the demands, including recognising when others around you need support and being there to provide it.

The postholder will help in receiving, checking and receiving all Purchase Order non-stock items and other stores associated activities according to current procedures under the direction of the Materials & Logistics Manager / their nominated deputy.  This isn’t a role for someone who doesn’t like daily changes in processes and tasks, particularly as we continue to expand our services to new areas. You will need to be reliable, able to work under pressure and motivate yourself and others.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be part of a small team based at our Warehouse in Eastleigh. The responsibilities of this role include but not limited to;

Goods In: being part of the Goods In team; signing for deliveries, checking, for accuracy unpacking, sorting and booking into our financial system (Oracle). Raising stock issues with suppliers directly and recording actions.

Driving: UEL has its own vehicle/vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes to Transport the items to and from the Warehouse to the Hospital where the items will need to be safely handed over to the UEL team based there. This task will be a requirement of this post holder shared with others in the same role. 

Warehouse: The successful candidate will be required to replenish the Warehouse with medical consumables and pick to meet order demands (kitting). Other Warehouse tasks will include forklift driving (training provided), using a floor scrubber and using a cardboard bailer, and keeping the work area tidy at all times.

The team liaise with clinical team members and will be key in providing an effective stock handling and management function.  Stock rotation, stock counting and maintaining safe and tidy storerooms will be concepts that you’ll need to be familiar with.

Physical requirements of the post

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to lift and handle boxes of varying shapes, sizes and weights (up to 20kgs) during the process of checking/ booking in.
  • Must be able to maneuver cages/ trolleys of goods (up to 180kgs) safely through busy corridors from Stores area to ward or department. This includes loading/unloading onto our own vehicles.

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • Customer care skills, acquired through NVQ level 3 or foundation stage of CIPS or demonstrable equivalent experience in a receipting, distribution, warehousing role.
Desirable criteria
  • CIPS qualification
  • Computer data entry experience
  • Microsoft Office Application experience.
