Are you are looking for a creative and rewarding Band 8a Senior Occupational Therapy role? Do you have a passion for working with young people at risk of becoming involved or have been involved with the Criminal Justice System? We require an experienced person with a strong background in CAMHS/ Youth Justice/ Forensic services who can support the development of North West London forensic CAMHS service in West London. The post is 1 FTE.
We are a community-based forensic Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service that specialises in offering consultation and support to professionals that work with young people (up to 18 years old) in 8 boroughs of north-west London.
The young people we work to support are usually displaying behaviours that cause concern about their risks to others and also sometimes from others. These young people are often at risk of entering / might already be within the youth justice system because of their behaviour. Some of them will also have mental health difficulties or neurodevelopmental disorders.

Main duties of the job
Our dynamic team are looking for an experienced OT to join our service, replacing a leaver, to support us in our expanding service development and to especially consider ways to engage the voice of the young people we work with.
The post-holder will be required to attend regular FCAMHS team meetings and contribute to the team discussions, assessments and formulations relating to service users, adding their professional lens/knowledge to the cases. Desirable experience would be in sensory assessments and supporting/assessing children and young people with neurodevelopmental issues.
The successful applicant will be expected to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and across disciplines e.g. with schools, social services, youth justice services, voluntary sector and CAMHS services.

You will have professional responsibility to the Head of Occupational Therapy and rehabilitation Forensic services and operational responsibility to the Service Manager Liaison and Diversion Community services.
Working for our organisation
North West London FCAMHS covers 8 boroughs and our model is one of consultation and assessment to support child and young people services working with individuals who are at risk of exclusion, detention or community placement breakdown. The service aims to provide support to services in the provision of positive risk taking with young people to maintain their community placements and so improve their future prognosis. We liaise with all agencies in our geographical footprint working with young people, including but not exclusive of CAMHS, Youth Offending Services (YOS), Children’s Services and Education. Any professional can call and refer into our service.
The core North West London FCAMHS team is made up of a Consultant Child & Adolescent Forensic Psychiatrist, a senior Clinical Psychologist, a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Senior Occupational Therapist and Team Administrator. We are agile working due to the geographical footprint.
The primary aim of FCAMHS is to provide specialist forensic child and adolescent mental health expertise at a variety of levels to a variety of institutions and networks working with young people under 18 years’ old who meet referral criteria.
We pride ourselves on our co-production with service users across the trust within our three Recovery colleges and hold regular events to celebrate our successes. We also involve services users in a variety of other ways including recruitment, user forums and consultations.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post-holder will be required to attend regular FCAMHS team meetings and contribute to the team discussions, assessments and formulations relating to service users.
As a Senior Clinical OT, you will be responsible for contributing to the work of our FCAMHS team.
To actively engage and document online all supervision - clinical, managerial and professional on a regular monthly basis.
Specific tasks will include:
• Being allocated a ‘duty day’ to provide consultant services to referrers, with support of the team as needed
• Provide advice and consultation to YJS workers, social workers, teachers about mental health and emotional wellbeing of their clients
• Provide advice and consultation to CAMHS workers about risk and contact with the youth justice system for their clients
• Attending weekly team meetings to contribute to team discussions on formulation and case planning
• Attending multiagency meetings alongside team members to provide joint thinking in the team around the young person
• Attending case work reviews in youth justice establishments, LAC reviews in secure children’s homes and CPA in secure hospitals to provide a longitudinal perspective of the young person’s needs and support transition in and out of secure services
• Joining with team members if adolescent forensic mental health assessments for clinical services and (possibly) court.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BsC (Hons) or equivalent Occupational Therapy qualification
- Registered with HCPC Experience of Working with children and young people community and/or inpatients
Desirable criteria
- Master’s Degree
- Management/Leadership training
- Further training in ADHD, ADOS and ADI-R or equivalent
- Experience of sensory assessments

- Clear indication of an interest in the relevant mental health field
- Management and supervision of O.T.s and support staff
- Broad O.T. clinical experience including inpatient/community mental health
