Job overview
We are looking for a Community Learning Disability Nurse, Band 6, 37.5 hours per week, permanent contract, to work in our Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities in the Reading locality.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a wide range of people with many diverse and complex needs. This is a great opportunity to work in the community providing you with a unique opportunity to develop and learn within the learning disability service.
You may already be a learning disability nurse working with people with a learning disability and are looking to take the next step into a community multi-disciplinary team, looking for a new challenge. Then why not contact us if you are ready for a new challenge.
You will be expected to do some of your visits remotely & face-to-face, working in a multi-disciplinary team approach, including working with private care providers and families. The ability to educate and influence is therefore essential.

Main duties of the job

To manage a caseload

To contribute to comprehensive specialist nursing assessment

To promote and facilitate access to primary and secondary healthcare for individuals with a learning disability including health checks and health action plans

To provide specialist advice and therapeutic interventions to parents and carers of people with a learning

To provide and facilitate health education and promotion to include both individual and group work

Essential criteria
- RNLD
- Current registration with NMC
Desirable criteria
- Teaching qualification e.g., ENB 998 or equivalent / mentorship
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Working with people that have a learning disability.
- Working with people who have Epilepsy.
- To have post qualification experience of working with people with a learning disability, for 2 years.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Working with families
- Working with people who challenge
- Work with people with mental health problems.
- Work with people with complex/profound disabilities.
- Working with people who have Dementia.
- Working with sexual health and support.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of Epilepsy, in relation to people with learning disabilities.
- Knowledge of approaches to challenging behaviour.
- Understanding/knowledge of current philosophies of care e.g., valuing people.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Ability to effectively manage self and others e.g., Time management caseload management.
- Able to demonstrate reflective practice.
- Ability to relate theory/research to practice.

- Awareness of research methods
- Ability to use a range of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions.
