We are seeking to recruit a trust doctor in Clinical Immunology. This is an opportunity to gain experience in clinical Immunology and allergy within a world class team specialising in the diagnosis and management of complex immunological disorders.   

The post holder will join an enthusiastic cohesive team of four medical consultants, two Immunology/Allergy trainees and three nurse specialists, there will also be an opportunity to gain experience in allergy within the local allergy services. The post is for 6 months in the first instance with potential extension.

The Department of Immunology at Barts Health NHS Trust is sited at the state-of-the-art Pathology and Pharmacy building at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel and provides diagnostic service with a fully comprehensive range of hospital departments providing elective and acute care including paediatrics, rheumatology, haematology, nephrology, dermatology, ENT, gastroenterology, respiratory medicine, infectious diseases, GUM/HIV.

Outpatient Immunology clinics and MDTs, the Immunology clinic is based at the Royal London Hospital site (RLH) and potentially allergy experience (St Barts hospital, Homerton Hospital)
Day ward patient reviews:  assessment and management of a wide range of patients with immunological diseases 
Inpatient ward rounds to review Immunology patients and ward referrals 
Clinical liaison and advice to patients and other specialties
Opportunity to take part in service development, audit and quality improvement projects, ongoing departmental research
Opportunity to obtain laboratory experience within the Immunology laboratory
Opportunity to participate in specialist medicine on call, supported by medical registrar and on-call consultant, depending on previous experience

Qualifications

  • MBBS/MB ChB or equivalent
  • MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification.
  • Full registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC)

  • Evidence of participation in research (peer-reviewed publication(s) or research degree)

Experience

  • Completion of F1/F2 years.
  • At least 12 months experience as medical SHO in appropriate acute medical specialties.
  • Current ALS certificate.

  • Higher trainee-equivalent experience of working in medical specialities such as Rheumatology/Haematology/Respiratory medicine/Renal Medicine
  • Previous experience in Immunology or allergy
  • Laboratory experience

Knowledge

  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job.
  • Clinical judgment: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritize clinical need.
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit/quality improvement and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
  • Understanding of modern medical curriculam and commitment to life-long learning.
