Job overview

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is a regional neurosciences centre providing specilaist neurology services and treatments to North West London and beyond.  These include amongst others, treatments for epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's disease, Myasthenia Gravis and migraine. The trust is home to one of the largest MS services in the country with over 1800 patients on treatment. Many of these treatments being provided through our homecare or on-site community pharmacy partners. Neurosciences services at the trust comprise  neurology daycare services plus acute neurology, stroke and neurology rehabilitation wards.  We are looking for an enthusiasitic and experienced pharmacist to join our multi-disciplinary team in providing comprehensive pharmacy services to our neurosciences patients. The post holder will have prescribing responsibilities and support work in outpatient clinics. They will work wihtin a team of pharmacists and technicians in providing services to both inpatient wards and outpatient clinics.   

Main duties of the job

 

  • To assist in the provision & development of a high quality patient focused clinical pharmacy service to both inpatients and outpatients within neurosciences services.
  • To assist in the provision of a high quality homecare service delivering medicines to neurology patients
  • To assist the lead pharmacists in the management and development of medicines management initiatives to neurosciences services
  • To assist the lead pharmacist in the management and development of trainee pharmacists when on rotation to cover neurosciences services.
  • To provide clinical pharmacy services, department and ward based, in line with Trust procedures and national legislation.
  • To support in the review & prescribing of anti-epileptic medication & disease modifying therapies for MS

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Member of the GPhC
  • Completed, or currently undertaking the post-graduate diploma in general pharmacy practice and have satisfactorily passed all assessment gateways to the 12-month assessment or beyond
Desirable criteria
  • FS2 of the Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice (UCL) or other equivalent certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • This must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, aseptic services, ward services and dispensing)
  • Experience in delivering training and education
  • Previous experience of clinical audit work and/or pharmacy practice research
  • Practical clinical experience
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of attending consultant-led ward rounds
  • Clinical guidelines development

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate complex information
  • Good ability to organise and prioritise work
  • Demonstrated good understanding of key NHS objectives and publications
Desirable criteria
  • Word and Excel at an advanced level
