We have a very exciting opportunity to recruit a Band 3 Nutrition Support Worker into the existing team of Nutrition Support Sister’s which is expanding here at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.
The demand for our Nutrition service is increasing which is reflected in the need to expand the Nutrition Nurse Specialist Team. This role is to complement our current service, to help co-ordinate care, educate and support inpatients, oncology patients and those in our local community whom are living with enteral feeding tubes.
It requires the successful candidate to have excellent communication skills to liaise and collaborate with all members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and patients.
The role is ideal for someone who has previous experience working with patients with feeding tubes or those with oncology experience. Those who enjoy a challenge, work autonomously and who feel comfortable with patients and I.T systems would benefit from applying.
This role will be supported by the Nutrition Support CNS, Nutrition Support Sister’s and Consultants across the specialities that use the service, also working closely with the Oncology teams at Royal Surrey as well as other regional centres across the St. Luke’s Cancer Alliance, Gastroenterology Consultants, Surgical Teams and Nutrition Support Team.
Main duties of the job
The nutrition support worker will work as part of a team sharing responsibility for the smooth running of service in line with Trust performance targets. This post will support the nutrition nurses with the day-to-day care of both inpatients and outpatients including taking / responding to telephone calls, emails and healthcare professional concerns, supporting in the administration tasks such as booking procedures and maintaining the team’s database. There will be opportunities to develop patient facing skills with support such as simple wound dressings of feeding tubes and patient education involving the enteral feeding pumps. The post holder will support in coordinating care by providing a single point of contact for patients, including rapid re-entry into the system for those people identified as having urgent or specialist needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Under the direction, guidance and supervision of the Nutrition Clinical Nurse Specialists and the surrounding Nutrition Support Sister’s the post holder will provide essential co-ordination of care for patient’s receiving artificial nutrition across the acute trust and Royal Surrey Cancer Centre. They will be crucial in contributing to the overall effective running of the service.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE English Language and Mathematics(Grades A-C)
- NVQ3 or equivalent experience
- Evidence of continued role development
Desirable criteria
- Coaching or teaching qualification
Knowledge ad Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience with direct patient care
- IT literacy – use of Microsoft Excel spread sheets / Word documents
- Knowledge and understanding of current issues in acute NHS setting
Desirable criteria
- Clinical audit
- Enteral feeding tube knowledge / experience of working with patient’s requiring artificial feeding
