Milton Keynes University Hospital Pharmacy has had significant investment over the last year in a fully refurbished Pharmacy department and a state of the art Aseptic Unit. In addition, we have added a new outpatient dispensary right in the heart of our main entrance and OPD. We are now looking for someone to set up and run this outpatient pharmacy. 

 

We are looking for a pharmacist with a community pharmacy background to ensure services meet all necessary regulation. You will bring a passion for health and wellbeing with a desire to support both patients and staff of the hospital to manage their health. You will have an eye for business, to grow and develop the service to enable us to widen out offering. You will have strong clinical skills and be able to liaise with prescribers to optimise the use of medicines ensuring value for money and best possible patient outcomes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Accountable for the delivery of high quality, patient centred, safe and progressive outpatient pharmacy services.
  • Perform the duties and responsibilities of the superintendent pharmacist as required by the GPhC and all applicable legislation.
  • Ensure the service and its’ staff complies with all expectations of the GPhC and in-line with “Standards for pharmacy professionals” (GPhC 2017)
  • Ensure that all pharmacy practice, including their own, is within the statutory legislation and boundaries described within the latest version of the Medicines, Ethics and Practice issued by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • To ensure adequate and up-to-date SOPs are in place as required by GPhC guidance to ensure effective, efficient and safe working practices.
  • To ensure that all activity undertaken is consistent with maintaining registration of the premises with GPhC
  • To ensure the Responsible Pharmacist Regulations 2008 are adhered to at all times and the “Pharmacy Record” is maintained at all times.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • BPharm / BSc / MPharm (or equivalent)
  • GPhC Registration
  • Higher Degree / Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate management qualification or equivalent experience
  • MRPharmS
  • Independent prescribing qualification as a pharmacist

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial managerial skills including previous pharmacy management experience
  • Commercially aware and understands how to grow and maintain a pharmacy business
  • Previous experience as a Superintendent Pharmacist or other senior Pharmacist post
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care
  • Experience of audit work
  • An awareness of current national standards, guidelines and service delivery issues relevant to the service
  • Experience of supervising, developing and appraising staff as well as giving feedback
  • Proven experience of working at a strategic level with senior clinicians and managers and experience of working in an integrated directorate team
