Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 practitioner to join the Specialist Autism Team, a unique and continuously developing service which works closely with secondary mental health care services to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions for autistic individuals.
This post is a fantastic opportunity for a creative and innovative practitioner with a passion for delivering person-centred care, which is driven by the individuals whom we support.
We are looking for an exceptional Band 6 practitioner to join our caring and passionate team, who is keen to ensure the delivery of high quality specialist, bespoke services which are designed to meet individual need and preference.
The Specialist Autism Team adopts a multidisciplinary team approach to working which supports the evolutionary scope of the service. The MDT is made up of Occupational Therapists, Nurses (RMN & RLD), Speech and Language Therapists, Therapy Assistants & Clinical Psychologists.
Through such an approach we are continually learning, developing and findings different ways of working in order to meet the needs and wishes of the individuals we work with. For this reason we have regular team development sessions and each team member plays a vital role in sharing knowledge and information.
We work as a tertiary service between the core hours of 9am until 5pm (Monday-Friday), with some flexibility required on occasion to meet individual need and preferences.
Main duties of the job
The Service strives to provide forward thinking high quality services, working in partnership with other agencies. In addition to working with autistic people and their families we have a strong commitment to public health, promotion of safeguarding and effective risk management through service development and training initiatives working within an enthusiastic and experienced team.
A Registered Professional, with up to date knowledge, of health policy and legislation applicable to autistic people. Adaptability, good communication skills and self-motivation are essential. An experienced clinician with proven skills in working with people who have complex health needs and challenging behaviour and autism, demonstrating practice is evidence based and innovative.
The post holder will be responsible for a team caseload and supervision of other practitioners (registered and unregistered), to provide strong clinical leadership and supervision within the Specialist Autism Team.
The post holder will work flexibly between the hours of 8am and 8pm by working a rotational shift pattern including weekend working to meet the needs of the team and the wider network

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Relevant Core Professional Qualification and registered with the appropriate professional body (NMC or HCPC registered) 2 –3 years’ post-registration experience
Desirable criteria
- Teaching/Mentorship post-registration qualification Degree in relevant subject
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of contemporary autism policy Knowledge and skills in the assessment / management of risk Demonstrates reflective practice Demonstrates continuing professional development Knowledge of legal frameworks applicable to autistic people
