The Procurement team is looking for an apprentice to join our organisation. This is an exciting role within the team and one that will be extremely rewarding for the right candidate.
This is a fabulous opportunity to undertake the level 4 Commercial Procurement and Supply apprenticeship whilst learning many key ‘on the job’ skills. Your role will often be the first point of contact for our staff, so you’ll need the right interpersonal skills and a drive to deliver excellent levels of customer service. You’ll need excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to build and sustain good relationships in and outside the hospital; good attention to detail and computer literacy.
The Apprenticeship programme will be delivered by our external NHS approved training provider. You will take part in interactive workshops and be assigned a tutor to support you throughout the programme as well as receiving support from the MKUH Apprenticeship Team. Alongside your apprenticeship studies, you will also complete the level 4 CIPS diploma in procurement.

- You are 16 years old or over,
- You have resided in the UK or EEA for at least the past 3 years,
- You can produce evidence of your Maths & English GCSE (or equivalent) qualifications,
- You have at least a year’s experience within a procurement setting
- You will not be in full time education at the point of starting this role,
- You have not previously undertaken a procurement qualification at level 4 or higher

Apprenticeship roles at MKUH are Fixed Term for the duration of the training. For this role, the Term is 26 months. For the first 12 months of the apprenticeship, you will be paid the national apprentice wage. From month 13 to completion, you will be paid vs your age as per government guidelines. Upon successful completion of the training, a permanent role may be offered, subject to your performance during the apprenticeship, and MKUH resource requirements at the time.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide an effective and professional procurement service to meet departmental objectives in compliance with the Trust’s Standing Financial Instructions and Standing Orders.
- Work with the Procurement Business Partners to assist in monitoring, measuring and recording the performance of the procurement and supply chain function against key result areas as outlined in the procurement strategy and work plans, and contribute to regular reports for trust committees and boards.
The post holder will ensure that the service is sensitive, responsive, and flexible to the changing needs of the users balanced against the need to remain cost effective
- To work closely with partnership organisations to influence choice, prioritise change and deliver savings, process improvement and product standardisation, driving cost down and quality and service up.
- Work closely with colleagues across the Procurement function and Partner organisations to promote joint approaches to solving service issues.
- This a developmental post, the post-holder will be expected to undertake an Commercial Procurement and Supply Apprenticeship at Level 4. The Apprentice needs to remain up to date with their course studies as failure to keep on track may put the continuation of the short-term contract at risk. You will be enrolled onto the Apprenticeship in December 2022 and must be available to start on this date.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of Maths and English GCSE C/4 or above or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of contract law
- Knowledge of purchase to pay systems and other e-procurement tools
- Computer literate
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages
Desirable criteria
- Membership of The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply
- Academic ability to study at Level 4, including understanding of Havard referencing
Experience
