Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen to join the Colorectal team within the Surgery Care Group as a locum Consultant Surgeon in Colorectal with a 10+1 PA job plan. Candidates should be able to manage an undifferentiated general surgical take including major trauma and should have a subspecialist colorectal interest. Candidates should have GMC specialist registration.
You will be part of a team of 13 colorectal consultants working in a busy tertiary referral teaching hospital. Elective working will include colorectal cancer MDT's and IBD MDT's, elective laparoscopic and open surgery, Colonoscopy lists and outpatient activity. You will be expected to cover the unselected emergency weekend take on a 1:20 rota. Further weekend working covering emergency colorectal 1:20 and colorectal ward rounds 1:20 resulting in 3:20 weekends worked.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Have an elective colorectal practice with a subspecialist interest
- Manage an undifferentiated general surgical take (paired with a colleague)
- Manage general surgical major trauma
- Opportunities to take on management / supervisor roles
- Opportunities to be involved in training, teaching, research / trials and university work

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Ideally post graduate higher degree
- Ideally post CCT fellowship
- Interest in wider aspects of consultant practice (as above)
- Willingness to work a 10-11 PA contract

Qualifications and training
Essential criteria
- Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or equivalent
- Higher Qualification in specialty i.e. FRCS
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate degree
- Post CCT Fellowship
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
Previous or relevant experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCT in colorectal surgery
- Ability to offer clinical opinion on a range of problems in Acute and/or GI surgery
- Experience of supervising Foundation and core trainees
- Ability to teach clinical skills
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
- Experience of audit management
Desirable criteria
- Experience in a specialist area of colorectal surgery
- Experience in a major trauma centre
