The post is available from February 2025 for 12 months, and you must have full GMC registration with a license to practice at time of application. Previous NHS experience is essential.
The individual will be expected to perform duties and take clinical responsibility of ST1-2.

Main duties of the job
The post would optimally suit trainees who are considering a future in Surgery and want to explore Paediatric Surgery as an area of specialisation. Ideally applicants will have completed Foundation Training and / or Core Training. The post will provide a solid basis from which to apply for an ST post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This Post will be fixed to one clinical area over the course of the year. The successful applicant will join a 1:5 Paediatric Surgical SHO rota. They will be exposed to acute paediatric surgical on call work, routine ward duties, clinics and operating theatres. This post also involves an on-call commitment to maintain acute skills that occur at within the terms and conditions of service for NHS doctors and dentists in training (England) 2016.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Primary Medical Qualification
- Full GMC registration at time of application
- Satisfactory completion of Foundation Training (or equivalent)
- Previous paid experience working in the NHS
Desirable criteria
- MRCP or equivalent
- Relevant higher degree
- ALS
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- To be clear, fluent and articulate in communication in English
- Good history & examination skills
- Able to formulate a working diagnosis
- Able to order appropriate investigations
- Image interpretation relevant to practice
- Ability to manage common medical emergencies
- Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague
Desirable criteria
- Experience and interest in the specialty
- Neat, legible writing of notes and charts
- Ability to perform basic general procedures
Maintaining Clinical Competence
Essential criteria
- Written evidence of satisfactory training to date e.g. workplace assessments
Clinical Governance, Audit and Research
Essential criteria
- Experience of audit projects
- Understanding of research principles
Desirable criteria
- Presentation of completed audit projects at local or national meetings
- Organised or contributed to an audit project that has resulted in change
- Evidence in participation in research projects
- Publication of research in peer reviewed journals and presentation at local and national meetings
