You have an opportunity to join this well established, friendly, hardworking team of over 60 Radiographers working within the Cross Sectional Imaging Department at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). Due to service expansion we are seeking enthusiastic and talented radiographers preferably with experience in CT, MRI and neuroangiography to join our team.  A training post will be considered if you are identified as an appropriate candidate. 

UHS is one of the largest acute teaching trusts in England. It has a major trauma centre for adults and children, provides many specialist services such as neurosciences, cardiac and children’s intensive care and is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC.  It is also a major centre for teaching and research.

The successful post holder will be a key member of the cross sectional imaging team, with a high level of competence in the specialist modalities of MRI, CT scanning and Neuro Interventional Angiography. We have a well-developed and supportive induction process. You must be able to demonstrate good communication skills, professionalism and a flexible approach to working to support the MRI, CT and Neuroangiography Imaging Leads in delivering an efficient and effective service. As a major trauma centre, with a large inpatient population, we provide a 24/7 service and require flexibility to cover all shifts. 

You will be working on the Southampton General Hospital site,  Royal South Hants Community Diagnostic Hub and rotating off site in the Southampton City area providing a CT imaging service for targeted lung health check screening.

The Department currently has the following equipment installed: - 
•  2 Siemens Sola 1.5T MRI scanners
•  1 Siemens Aera 1.5T MRI scanner
•  1 Siemens Skyra 3T MRI scanner
•  1 Siemens Vida 3T MRI Scanner
•  4 Siemens Definition Edge Plus dual energy CT scanners
•  1 Siemens Drive Dual Source CT scanner
•  1 Siemens GoTop CT lung screening relocatable unit
•  GE Revolution GSI CT
•  Siemens Artis Zee Bi-plane Neuro-Interventional Angiography suite
•  Siemens Artis Zee Single plane Neuro-Interventional Angiography Suite

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

  • HCPC Registration
  • Considerable post graduate experience of working in a department using IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR 2017 regulations in clinical practice
  • Appropriate BSc Radiography degree
  • Team player who can also work independently.
  • Able to work within protocols
  • Sound knowledge of all areas of Governance including H&S, COSHH, Manual Handling
  • Experience of teaching, mentoring, and supporting colleagues training and development
  • Proven ability to effectively adapt imaging technique when necessary
  • Effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including responding appropriately to distressed patients and staff and distressing circumstances e.g. suspected physical abuse, major trauma, cancer and death.
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Previous supervisory/team leading experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Quality assurance supervision and practice
  • Appropriate post qualification experience in imaging
  • Evidence of personal and professional development
  • Relevant clinical courses
  • Knowledge of other departments works practice with which radiology has a significant interface.
