Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the 2022 SOR S.E region Team of the Year at  University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) . We are looking for someone who wants a career in the challenging and rewarding field of paediatric radiography as a Band 5 Paediatric Radiographer.  We are looking for a part time radiographer to cover either 
08:30-16:30 on Mondays, Wednesday or Thursdays or 08:00- 18:00 on Tuesdays and Wednesday. 

University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest teaching trusts across the country. It is one of the few major trauma centres for children in England. It provides a full range of specialities including paediatric cardiac, neurosurgery, oncology and orthopaedics for not just our local population but children across the south of England and the Channel Islands. 
Paediatric Intensive care (PICU) is a 16 bedded unit caring for children from 0-18 years old. The neonatal intensive care unit is one of the largest in the country

· 4 Xograph Triathlon T3 Precision DR rooms 
· 1 Siemens Artis Zee Multi-purpose fluoroscopy rooms 
· Large fleet of image intensifiers (Cios Flow, Cios Select, Ziehm Solo, Ziehm Vision R)
· Large fleet of DR mobiles (Carestream DRX, Delft M1)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will work as part of a specialist team of paediatric radiographers and consultant paediatric radiologists providing a wide range of high quality planar, fluoroscopy and specialist paediatric imaging both in the department, on the wards and in theatre.
Undertake paediatric radiography to a high level of expertise, using initiative to adapt technique and image quality and promote radiographer excellence.
Operate within boundaries of IRMER17 and IRR17.

Someone who wishes to develop their skills as a paediatric radiographer in a fun friendly team.
Someone who is able use their experience and skills to produce high quality images. Following protocols but able to adapt their approach as required.
Someone who has excellent communication skills with children and young people of all ages as well as their parents and carers.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • HCPC Registration
  • Experience of working in a department using IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR 2017 regulations in clinical practice
  • Appropriate BSc Radiography degree
  • Team player who can also work independently
  • Able to work within protocols
  • Sound knowledge of all areas of Governance including H&S, COSHH, Manual Handling
  • Experience of teaching, mentoring, and supporting colleagues training and development.
  • Effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including responding appropriately to distressed patients and staff and distressing circumstances e.g. suspected physical abuse, major trauma, cancer and death.
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Application form expresses a strong, specific reason for wanting to work at UHS
  • Knowledge of other departments works practice with which radiology has a significant interface
  • Appropriate post qualification experience in imaging
