JOB PURPOSE


We are an ambitious and enthusiastic team providing both routine and specialist cardiac
testing. The post holder will perform, without supervision transthoracic echocardiograms on adult inpatients and outpatients and write reports to BSE standard.
The post-holder will provide clinical leadership in the echocardiography service alongside 7 other echocardiographers, whilst working alongside other physiologists to ensure delivery of a quality clinical service

JOB SUMMARY


 To be BSE accredited and undertake, supervise and teach at high level TTEs
 To assist with TOE, Bubble Studies and Stress Echo’s
 To develop the complex echo service and improve management of complex echo 
lists within the department 
 To maintain a progressive learning environment and ensure the development of all 
members within the echo department
 To assist in achieving BSE departmental accreditation
 To deputise for the head of departments and take on management and leadership 
responsibility in partnership with the departmental head as well as day to day running 
of clinics and equipment 
 Paediatric echo is regularly performed at the

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Band 7 Post ( Part time -18.5 Hours ) : Highly Specialist Cardiac 
Physiologist (Echocardiography) +16% Recruitment & Retention
Band 7 Cardiac Physiologist - Echo - £45753-52067 per annum inclusive of Higher Cost Supplement area and plus R&R 16% of Basic Salary. 

We are seeking a suitably qualified Cardiac Physiologist / Echocardiographer to join our team at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. 


The Cardiology Business Unit provides a full invasive and non-invasive cardiac service including cardiac catheterisation. The department also offers physiologist-led exercise testing, 24 hour ECG and BP monitoring and event recording. We have a busy Pacemaker/ICD implant and follow-up service; we are the leading implant centre in Surrey for ICDs and CRTs.
In terms of echocardiography, the department currently performs around 10000-12000 routine echoes annually and around 1000 advance echoes such as Stress, Contrast and TOE.  BSE accreditation in adult Echocardiography is essential (or equivalent such as EACVI). Applicants will have a BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent and at least 1 year post BSE qualification experience in Transthoracic Echocardiography. 
Applicants must be a highly self-motivated, well organized, flexible and reliable. You should be able to demonstrate expertise in advanced techniques in echocardiography and be enthusiastic to both teach and learn within the field of echocardiography. Excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills are a key requirement and your willingness to use initiative will see you succeed. There is a commitment to research within the department and you will be expected to be a part of this.
This post offers you the opportunity to work in a stimulating environment with a friendly motivated team, further develop your knowledge and skills in Echocardiography and leadership at band 7 level, participate in training and teaching, and ensure you are supported in maintaining your BSE accreditation. 

We also able to offer flexible working hours of 8am to 6pm, four days per week with a fixed day off 
(following a two month settling in period), or 9am to 5pm five days per week .
A full training and induction programme will be provided to familiarise the successful candidate with 
departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology or equivalent & RCCP registration
  • Intermediate Life Support Skills
  • BSE accreditation in adult echocardiography or EACVI accreditation
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Professional Qualification/Masters Level

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • One year experience post BSE qualification in Transthoracic Echocardiography
  • Substantial physiological measurements experience
  • Extensive experience in assisting with stress echos, bubble studies and TOEs
  • Extensive knowledge of physiological investigations
  • Sound knowledge of all areas and techniques within echocardiography
