Are you a Nurse, social worker or OT looking for a new challenging and varied role? Do you have a keen interest in Child and Adolescent mental health?
Here in our CAMHS West Specialist Community Team we are looking for a Duty Clinician to come and join us on full time basis.
As a team we provide support and offer a range of therapies to children and young people who are waiting for assessments. We provide this support by talking to them and their network, either face to face (appointments in Reading or Newbury locations), by telephone or via our virtual platform. Duty work involves liaising with a range of services who are all working towards helping young people whose presentation may change whilst waiting for treatment or assessment.
The ideal clinician for the job will be interested in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, be thoughtful and reflective, enjoy working in a team. You will have previous experience working with children and young people in a mental health or social care setting.
The Duty role is based in Reading with the Service currently operating Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm. You will be provided with a supportive induction, regular supervision (clinical and management) and plenty of in-house training opportunities.
Staff wellbeing and development is a priority for the team, alongside clinical and management supervision there is dedicated time for reflective case discussion and team formulation, wellbeing activities and support.

The main duties of the role are:

To respond to Duty referrals on a daily basis. Referrals are generated from those young people on our waitlist. Respond to risk need, when clinicians within the team are not available i.e. on leave or training.

To complete risk reviews and update safety and care plans for patients and give advice.

To liaise with members of the MDT to support clients seen on Duty.

To identify and report any safeguarding issues as they may arise.

To work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team as well as patients, carers, family members and internal and external agencies.

To be responsible for a small caseload.

- Masters or Doctoral level qualification or recognised equivalent qualification:- Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist as accredited by the BPS or HCPC and registered with HCPC
- OR Masters or Doctoral level qualification or recognised equivalent qualification:- Qualified Psychotherapist registered with professional body i.e. ACP approved Child Psychotherapist or
- OR Masters or Doctoral level qualification or recognised equivalent qualification:- Qualified Systemic Family Therapist Masters level UKCP registered
- OR Professional qualification as below with additional recognised training in delivering therapeutic interventions:-
- OR Professional qualification as below with additional recognised training in delivering therapeutic interventions:- Occupational Therapy degree level qualification and registered with HCPC.
- OR Professional qualification as below with additional recognised training in delivering therapeutic interventions:- Registered Social Worker with relevant social work qualification.
- OR Professional qualification as below with additional recognised training in delivering therapeutic interventions:- Other Health professional with relevant post graduate qualification.
- Current registration with an approved professional regulatory body such as HCPC or ACP.
Continuous Professional Development

- Additional post-qualification training equivalent to a minimum of 50 hours, supervision within a specific modality directly related to clinical practice including case presentations, group supervision, attendance of teaching programmes, courses etc.
- A supervisory qualification in the relevant professional discipline or substantial supervision experience.
- Professional qualification in CBT i.e. diploma or equivalent Accreditation with BABCP or ability to work towards the requirements
Previous Experience

- Experience of managing complex caseloads and applying a range of interventions
- Experience of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and multi-agency environment.
- Ability to engage and communication with a wide range of professionals, staff and other service stakeholders.
- Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a team, reprioritising work and that of others work to reflect changing needs.
- Ability to manage clinical risk and understanding of child safeguarding procedures.
Knowledge, skills and ability

- Advanced interpersonal, influencing, communication, observation and reporting skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to analyse situations and be able to make the right decisions.
- Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding child development and the impact it can have on meeting the five Every Child Matters outcomes. The Children’s Act 1989 and 2004 and The Mental Health Act 1983 and 2007.
- Able to empathise, be supportive and sensitive to the needs of others as well as being able to cope with distressing circumstances.
- Ability to work to timescales and comfortably cope in pressurised situations, applying practical problem solving skills in everyday and complex situations
- Competent IT skills and the ability to navigate around various systems and software packages (such as outlook, databases e.g. RiO, MS office and the internet). Good keyboard skills.
- Able to work flexibly or change to flexible hours pattern as required and the ability to travel independently between locations to fulfil the requirements of the position.
