SUN is exclusively a group network, which is aimed at providing ongoing support for SUN members through attending groups as and when they feel they need support. The post holder will be managing a team of Lived Experience and Core Professional Facilitators who jointly co-facilitate SUN groups, and the team meets weekly for supervision, training and reflective practice.

The SUN Team sits within the Intensive Management of Personality-disorder Clinical Therapies Team, (IMPACTT) and the post holder will have line management with a Senior Psychological Therapist in the wider team.

Through co-production, Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust has developed a comprehensive care pathway for individuals who may have difficulties associated with a diagnosis of Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD). The SUN (Service User Network) service is a relatively new component of the pathway, based on a national model for SUN.

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with experience working with this client group, ideally with relevant service development skills to appoint in a key leadership role to support the growth and integration of the SUN  offer within the Berkshire Personality Disorder pathway.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide operational oversight, line management, service co-ordination and support the team in the delivery of groups, stepping in to provide group facilitation if needed and be responsible for the ongoing growth and development of this exciting service.   Groups will be delivered across various sites in Berkshire as well as online, and the successful candidate will be working regularly from our base in Reading, travel to sites across Berkshire as needed or work remotely when appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The “must haves” for this role: 

1.    Diploma or degree level professional qualification such as Nurse, OT, Psychologist or Social Worker and registered with relevant professional body;

2.  Completed a management and/or leadership training programme alongside strong experience in a management role and service development;

3. Experience of working in multiple mental health settings and experience of working with people with a diagnosis of EUPD;

4.    Excellent communication skills

5.    Experience of co-production and working alongside people with Lived Experience;

6.    Hold a clean driving licence and have use of a car for work.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Diploma or degree level professional qualification – Nurse, OT, Psychologist, Social Worker
  • Registered with relevant professional body
  • Has completed a management or leadership training programme
Desirable criteria
  • Has completed further training in clinical leadership

Continuous Professional Development

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in range of mental health services and/or positions with leadership responsibilities

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous leadership experience in at least one mental health service setting
  • Experience of working within a variety of mental health settings post qualification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing serious incidents and situations concerning safeguarding, risk management, complaints, and investigations
  • Have experience of working alongside Lived Experience practitioners
  • The ability to engage clinicians and other stakeholders in change development and improvement
  • Be confident and comfortable managing high levels of complexity across the team and the service
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to use electronic system
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of local and national policy, guidance and framework
