We are seeking two enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals to join us in ensuring our service users, carers and staff and members of the public are given opportunities to take part in research projects. We are dedicated to generating high quality, innovative research into mental health, learning disabilities and neurodiversity and what we do changes lives across the UK

There are two roles available as fixed term positions, one for 12 months and the other for 6 months, please indicate which you would like to be considered for in your application. 

The roles combine research delivery and design and encompasses data collection, engaging clinical teams, and direct recruitment of our service users, carers and staff and members of the public.  All data collection activity is completed according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ensuring protocols and standard operating procedures are followed. 

Main duties of the job

The role of Research Assistant is based in York in the Child Oriented Mental Health Innovation Collaborative (COMIC).  The Research Assistant will work within a well-established research team supporting the development and delivery of internal research projects and national portfolio research.  There are national and local goals to increase the diversity and opportunities to access high quality research studies therefore Research Assistants have a key role in facilitating this within the NHS. The COMIC team are skilled in co-production and Patient and Public Engagement and this will be a key focus in this role. 

The post holder will be required to deliver research across the Trusts geography and the role will require travel across Trust sites and other locations such as participants homes and school or youth group locations for example.  This role requires both team and lone working and effective communication both written and verbal is vital for the position.

Using our specialist expertise, unique population and collaborative approach, we bridge boundaries, provide hope and we’re actively shaping the future of mental health care. The successful candidate will also contribute to the departments objective to develop and deliver high quality research for the communities we serve. 

Working for our organisation

The main tasks will be to increase participation of NHS staff, service users, members of the public and carers in studies delivered by the research team. Studies may be led by clinicians, a variety of universities across the country or commercial research organisations. Tasks may involve screening participants for eligibility, data collection such as completing psychometric measures, or interviews with participants and ensuring the studies meet their local recruitment to time and target goals. 

The role will also include participating in Patient and Public Involvement (PPI), through focus groups or interviews and other co-production methods. There may also be the opportunity to work on the development of studies and contribution to research publications. A knowledge of research methodologies is required, as well as an understanding of confidentiality when handling personal information. 

The Research Assistant may also be assigned other duties in connection with research projects identified by the CSO, RPM, and the Yorkshire & Humber Clinical Research Network.
