Are you looking to work with a dynamic, forward thinking team?

Are you an accomplished Podiatrist with experience working with Diabetes and a passion for innovation, service development and educating others? Are you looking for a challenging, fulfilling post?  

An exciting opportunity has arisen at ESNEFT based at Colchester General Hospital. You will be managing an inpatient clinical caseload, utilising expert skills and delivering various health professional education sessions.

Within this role, while community based you will also attend the Diabetic Foot MDT clinic that runs twice weekly at Colchester Hospital.

The clinic comprises of Diabetes consultants, Podiatrists, Diabetes Specialists nurses, Vascular and orthopaedic consultants, Vascular nurses, orthotist, plaster room, Plastic surgeons, OPAT and nursing support

This would ideally suit an innovative team player who is able to work as an autonomous practitioner and enjoys a varied workload.  Proven post registration experience and a basic knowledge of diabetes gained from relevant role/ basic study and experience.

 Additional training required for the post will be provided for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

  • Assess foot wounds/tissue breakdown on all Diabetic feet identified by Ward staff, EAU, A & E, either identified on admission or throughout stay (including pressure damage on Diabetic feet).
  • Provide Specialist Podiatry input in the care plan of Foot pathology, particularly in regards to debridement, antibiotics, specialist dressings and offloading / pressure relief. This will include non-medical prescribing as clinically indicated and within scope of practice.
  • Provide specialist Podiatry input into joint Vascular and Diabetic MDT ward rounds for those Diabetic foot patients that require an MDT approach (including Diabetologist, Vascular consultant, Vascular Nurse, Orthopaedics where appropriate).
  • Provide specialist Podiatry input into CLI clinics for patients with foot pathologies.
  • Supporting the management of complex foot and ankle wounds and liaise with community nurses regarding complex patients.
  • Be the link between Inpatient (medical and surgical teams) and Outpatient care for patients with Diabetic foot complications to ensure appropriate follow-up on discharge locally and the pathway of care between community/primary care and secondary care is as seamless as possible.

Person specification

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experienced in the provision of high risk treatments & diabetic assessments.
  • Considerable experience working in different clinical settings.
  • Experience of facilitation and working within secondary care.
  • Experience in Audit & Research.
  • Experience of Leadership and facilitating change.
  • Proven post registration experience including working with diabetes patients
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of on-going Professional Development at Masters Level.
  • Experience of Community and Acute settings.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc or equivalent in Podiatry
  • Current Health and Care Professionals Council Registration.
  • Post registration training in Diabetes / diabetic footcare
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship or Supervisory Skills Training
  • Training on CBT or Motivational Interviewing/Year of Care
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification
