The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an enthusiastic, band 6 Midwife to join the midwifery team.

This position is open to midwives who are interested in working within a homebirth case loading model of care and are able to meet the challenge of delivering high standards of care, ensuring that each woman’s journey to motherhood is an individualised experience.

We offer the opportunity to join a well-established and highly acclaimed homebirth team who work solely to provide a high standard of personalised care for women choosing homebirth.

Future opportunities will be available to work in other areas of the service in a continuity of carer team or as part of the core ward teams.

You must hold NMC midwifery registration
You will be expected to be able to show evidence of current practice/updating.

 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The post-holder is responsible for the assessment of needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care. This midwife is expected to work in a case-loading model and carry out all midwifery care for women booked within the homebirth service including intrapartum care in the home setting. Excellent risk assessment skills are essential to identify risk factors and refer appropriately, working with the multi-disciplinary team as required.

If working within the integrated service the post-holder would be designated to take charge regularly of a ward area or an equivalent sphere within midwifery in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility.  The post-holder is expected to supervise junior staff and to be able to teach qualified and unqualified staff, including basic and/or post-basic students.

To work initially within the well-developed homebirth service in a case-loading model of care. 

There may also be a requirement to work a shift pattern in the integrated maternity service and rotate within all clinical areas to support professional development and maintain safe standards of midwifery care in line with service provision.

Responsible for the provision and maintenance of a high standard of midwifery care for mothers and babies and is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating care appropriately.

Recognizes that the needs of each mother and her family are unique and responds appropriately, throughout and across the variety of environments in which midwives practice. Competently giving care in all areas of midwifery, and prescribing care for women with normal pregnancies. Challenging care that is not evidence based.

Is expected to provide total care for antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period and informs the Professional Midwifery Advocate when medical support is absent for whatever reason. The midwife will maintain contemporaneous records as required.

  • Shows consolidation of experience through achievement of Competency Skills in midwifery.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy/national guidance/CQC/ and appreciate the implications of this on engagement
