Advanced Clozapine Clinical Support Worker

We are looking for a highly motivated and conscientious clozapine clinical support worker. You will already have a relevant healthcare qualification underpinning your experience, such as a Psychology degree or a foundation degree with knowledge, values and skills gained as a senior support worker, an OT Assistant or a similar role. In turn, we will provide you with the training and support required for you to flourish in this job role.

You will be involved in the care of about 300 patients across the county attending clinics each week which you will need to be able to travel to. The patients range from patients newly started on clozapine as well as patients who have been on clozapine treatment for many years. Where applicable you will also take blood samples for analysis (training will be provided). As part of our commitment for providing holistic patient centred care you will also support with the physical health monitoring of patients on clozapine treatment.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for delivering care to patients in the clozapine clinics across Berkshire under the guidance of a qualified professional
  • To support the smooth running of the clozapine clinics including documentation, taking bloods, checking blood test results before supplying medication to patients
  • To support the ongoing care of patients on clozapine treatment including physical health monitoring
  • Planning for future clinics and communicating effectively with the wider pharmacy team for any follow up with medication supply

Person specification

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Good general educational qualifications including English & Maths at GCSE or equivalent grade C or above or equivalent
  • IT literate
  • Relevant clinical/healthcare qualification in at least one of the criteria below: Health related qualification, e.g. NVQ /QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care or higher; or Significant equivalent relevant experience in inpatient mental health setting together with relevant short courses
  • NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services (or willingness to undertake training)

Continuous Professional Development

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to undertake further required training, professional development and self-improvement to support patient care and experience. (Level of training required will be dependent on existing level of qualifications and competency)

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Robust and relevant experience within healthcare settings
  • Phlebotomy (or willingness to undertake training)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working within inpatient mental health settings
  • Experience working within outpatient mental health settings

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing at all levels including with patients, carers and MDT members/Trust employees
  • Demonstrable understanding of a Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
  • Knowledge of and skills in psychological interventions or willingness to develop
  • Able to work effectively with colleagues, patients and their families
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Ability to understand and evaluate risk to maintain patient safety
  • Honest, trustworthy, reliable
  • Understand the limits of your abilities

  • Ability and willingness to travel across all Trust sites within the Berkshire Health economy
