Job overview

We are looking for a medical secretary to work within the Radiology Department.  We are a friendly and supportive team.   

You will be required to have good audio and typing skills. Medical experience is desirable but not essential, as training will be available.

You will be required to have excellent typing and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team.

 

 

Main duties of the job

You will provide comprehensive and quality support to the Consultant Radiologists, Registrars and Advanced Practitioners.

You will be required to undertake a full range of secretarial duties including typing reports and correspondence, dealing with telephone enquiries, arranging appointments, supporting on-going and new clinical work and would be an important part of the team involved in providing an efficient and effective radiology service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To be part of the Radiology Medical Secretarial Team providing administrative support to the Radiology Department.

To provide quality support to the Consultant Radiologists, registrars and Advanced Practitioners. To undertake a full range of secretarial duties including typing reports and correspondence, dealing with telephone enquiries, arranging appointments and supporting on-going and new clinical work.

To gain understanding of national and local standards and targets and be proactive in ensuring the speciality and Trust can deliver a service that meets the standards and targets that have been set.    

To provide a considerate, patient focused service in all dealings with patients and with staff around the hospital and throughout the whole healthcare system.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent level of knowledge
  • RSA II or equivalent in word processing/audio typing

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritise workload and to adapt effectively to changing priorities
  • Evidence of establishing and maintaining effective filing systems
  • Advanced keyboard and typing skills
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of CERNER, SECTRA, & CRIS
