Specialist Midwife for Perinatal Pelvic Health

The successful candidate will assume the role of lead midwife for the Perinatal Pelvic Health Service, demonstrating an in-depth understanding of anal sphincter injury implications and perineal suturing practices. Collaborating closely with midwifery and obstetric colleagues, the individual will strive to minimise perineal trauma incidents.
The job involves implementing evidence based practices in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to prevent and address pelvic floor dysfunction arising from pregnancy and childbirth. The role entails improving the identification of pelvic floor issues both antenatally and postnatally, which will require conisistent and accessible information for service users and key health professionals, using assessment tools to support reliable evaluation. Responsibilities include enhancing antenatal education, incorporating self assessment of pelvic health and promoting pelvic floor muscle training during antenatal contacts.
Access to NICE recommended treatments for common pelvic health issues will be supported through the establishment of a Perinatal Pelvic Health Service which will be within the remit of the successful candidate. This will provide a single point of access and streamline referral processes.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with physiotherapists, obstetricians, midwives, urogynae, colorectal colleagues and service users to develop and deliver a Perinatal Pelvic Health service that aligns with the NHSE Perinatal Pelvic Health Service Specification.
The specialist midwife will be responsible for working with the Trust governance processes to develop, embed and evaluate this service through submission of KPIs and audits.
The successful candidate will provide enhanced support for those at higher risk, developing personalised care plans and adopting shared practices to reduce obstetric injury risks during childbirth and ensuring quality wound care.

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an experienced, band 6 Pelvic Health Midwife to join the midwifery team.
This position is open to midwives who can evidence an excellent working knowledge of perinatal pelvic health and its importance for the physical and mental health of women and their families. The successful candidate will work closely with their physiotherapy colleagues to deliver a perinatal pelvic health service as outline in the Three Year Delivery Plan for Maternity Services.

- Evidence of post-registration education
- Mentorship qualification (or equivalent)
Knowledge and Experience

- Knowledge of perineal care and OASI care bundle
- Confident with anatomy and physiology of the pelvic area
- Significant experience at band 6
- Experience working in all areas of maternity
- Experience participating in guideline reviews and developing policies
- Evidence of involvement in QI projects

- Evidence of working across MDT boundaries to achieve service development
