Main duties of the job
The Urology theatre scrub team at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to join the team as a band 6 senior theatre practitioner. This is a small, but very busy team, working alongside 16 consultants and undertaking all aspects of urological surgery.
- A high quantity of complex open and laparoscopic cases
- Andrology
- Complex stone surgery
- Cryotherapy, Brachytherapy, HIFU, HoLEP
- Endoscopic surgery
- Robotic surgery
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and motivated senior theatre practitioner with demonstrable leadership skills who is clinically proficient in Urology surgery.
If you enjoy working clinically and leading the team when required, currently working at band 5/6 level, and would love the opportunity for more development, then this may be the post for you. Current urology theatre scrub experience is essential and robotic experience would be an advantage.

What we are looking for
- To act as patient advocate and to maintain high standards of patient care ensuring that patient objectives are achieved using a systematic approach to patient care.
- To act as a positive role model, demonstrating sound clinical judgment whilst advising other professionals within their scope of practice.
- To act up in the absence of an appropriate manager and to act as pastoral team lead completing annual appraisals, and sickness reviews and giving support daily.
- Registered Nurse or Registered ODP, Foundation Management Course or equivalent
- Experience as a Theatre Practitioner in an acute theatre unit, clinical scrub skills – generic and speciality-specific.
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues and learners to promote effective learning in practice.
- Good communication skills with the ability to provide complex information in an intense setting.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse or Registered ODP
- Experience as a Theatre Practitioner in an acute theatre unit
- Awareness of professional regulations in the NHS
- Leadership Experience
- Clinical scrub skills – generic and speciality-specific
- Provide evidence of supporting / managing a range of learners in practice
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
- Good communication skills with ability to provide complex information in intense setting
- Foundation Management Course or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Leadership training / qualification
- Clinical management experience
- Experience in implementing change
- Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
