An exciting opportunity to join the Early Supported Discharge Team in Stroke at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust in a permanent role. There is also a possibility of additional roles following the successful SQuIRe (Stroke Quality Improvement in Rehabilitation) pilot project with NHS England, with the business case pending approval. The role is based in the community providing intense therapy at home for Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy needs for up to 6 weeks. We are looking for a motivated and dynamic General Therapy Assistants to join our team to work alongside the above therapists.

As a member of this team, you will be required to communicate well and be confident to work within guidelines and protocols. You will work under the guidance of Therapists within the team, in the rehabilitation of Stroke patients. After the appropriate training you will lone work in the community and be expected to be able to progress patients’ programmes. Working in this passionate and innovative team you will have the opportunity to expand your clinical skills and knowledge with regular in-house training. As part of the role, you will get the opportunity to support the acute stroke team for 7 day working.

To provide skilled routine and some non-routine, clinical and non-clinical support to the Stroke Team including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language therapy. This will be in both the community and hospital setting.

To accept routine patient referrals to the Early Supported Discharge team and assess, treat and discharge according to protocols and guidelines.

To work independently within the community setting, frequently in isolation throughout the working day, with access to supervision. 

To maintain close communication with the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate patient care.

To actively lead and co-ordinate the Assistant in‑service training programme

To actively participate in team and departmental in-service training. Work alongside qualified therapist in the induction of new staff

To carry out other duties deemed necessary by the Clinical Specialists/Lead Therapists in discussion with the post holder to ensure adequate provision of service
