Estates Electrician 

Estates Department
Band 4 (£25,147 to £27,596) + 30% R&R (£7,544.10 to £8,278.80) + on-call payments up to a potential £6,000 pa + 27 days+ Annual Leave + NHS pension
Hours: 37.5 per week

We are looking for an experienced electrician to join our on-site engineering team, you will preferably have a background in commercial electrical support, ideally supporting plant such as AHU’s, Chillers, electrical control systems, pumps, motors, etc.  Previous NHS experience is not essential although would be useful, full supplementary training will be provided.  Full details can be found in the attached Job Description and Person Specification documents.

 

Please note: This role includes the responsibility of being a member of the on-call team which operates out of hours, this is currently a 1 in 5 requirement of the role, full training and mentoring will be provided.  Also, whilst the core hours of this role are currently Monday to Friday, a shift pattern may be introduced in future which will change the core hours and days of working to include some weekend work which will attract weekend working supplements.

Appropriate scope of experience and a flexible can-do attitude to the broad remit of the role is required to succeed whilst you will be joining a great team of estates professionals.  You will have effective communication skills, be motivated and work well under pressure. You will be enthusiastic with the drive and vision to assist to move the service forward.   

To perform electrical maintenance, repair, and installation work, including activities which are technically intricate and/or non-routine: 

·         Fire Alarm Weekly Testing

·         Emergency Lighting Testing and Repairs

·         Generator Testing

·         Boiler Plant Treatment checks

·         Passenger Lift Release

·           Nurse Call Systems repairs and reset.

·         Air Handling Units – Electrical Fault Finding

·         Sterilisation BS -EN 285 HTM 01-01 (2010) Training to become a CP.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Diagnose and repair faults on electrical installations, plant, and equipment.

To manufacture, assembles and install new equipment as necessary.

Be required to estimate the material requirements of a job, and advise accordingly.

Be required to maintain and operate plant and associated equipment in accordance with current procedures.

Be required to use all tools and equipment relevant to the range of duties performed.

Work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management. 

Undertake on-call duties as part of the on-call team to ensure that emergency repairs occurring out of normal hours are attended to, including at short notice, to ensure this essential service is maintained.

To always carry Trust communication devices, including a two-way radio (to facilitate immediate response to emergencies) and an electronic tablet (in order to receive and update reactive & PPM job tasks).

To undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities at the request of the Estates Services Manager, Maintenance Manager, Senior Engineer, Electrical/Mechanical Supervisor or Estates Officers.

To record the progress of all tasks by keeping electronic records up to date.

To carry out minor works on equipment associated with other Trade disciplines.

To undertake other duties consistent with the role/grade of the post as requested by Management.

To work in accordance with the requirements of Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) and British Standards (BS-EN).

Person specification

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A minimum qualification of City & Guilds 236 at Part 2 or Equivalent
  • Qualified to IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition BS 7671:2018
Desirable criteria
  • BTEC, ONC in Electrical Engineering

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Completion of a structured training programme in electrical Engineering for a minimum period of three years, with two years site experience
  • Must have read and understood the ‘Electricity at Work regulations 1989’
  • Knowledge of Electrical Distribution, Standby Generators, Fire Alarm Systems, Building Management Systems
  • Full driving license (recognized by DVLA)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an Acute Hospital Environment
  • Knowledge of HTMs and BS -EN
