Job overview

This is a role within a psychologically led service with a national and international profile and impact. This rapidly developing and innovative clinical area operates across the northwest. The postholder will be based at one of the clinics in the northwest, which are Manchester, Preston, and Liverpool i.e. the one most convenient for them. Expectation of some travel across the sites is required, as well as working from home. The service employs a psychological model and is largely made up of a psychological workforce. There is a great opportunity, working alongside the Consultant Psychologist and Clinical Lead (a national expert in gambling addiction), to develop and contribute to the clinical delivery of the service within regional integrated care models. The postholder will contribute to clinical supervision, stakeholder engagement across the region, teaching, presentations, and research in a developing field. The service contributes to policy and regulation at a national level.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will work across the Northwest Gambling Service. They will deliver assessment, formulation, risk management, and treatment of service users with gambling disorder and co-morbid distress. In addition, there will be a key role in supervising non-psychologists involved in psychological intervention, as well as harnessing the psychological model via regular MDT meetings.  
The role will involve research and evaluation, as well as supporting audit and clinical governance. They will supervise   Mental Health Nurses, therapists and psychologists and work within the Northwest MDT. They will work within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the Trust’s policies and procedures. There is also the opportunity to innovate within the service and influence the service as a member of the senior team. Some teaching/presentations in public, academic, and professional settings also a part of the role.
Qualification in CBT, DBT and experience working in addiction services would be highly desirable.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical supervision of psychologists, nurses and therapists
Expectation of travel across the sites is required 
Adherence and the integrity of the clinical model
Contributing where agreed and appropriate to research and evaluation, including the routine collection of clinical data and outcome measures
Contributing to the clinical governance of the service
Involvement in actively promoting the service across the region
Teaching on Doctorate in Clinical Psychology as well as overseeing psychology placements in the service
Psychological therapy, including CBT, for service users with a gambling addiction and co-occurring distress

Qualifications and registration

Essential criteria
  • Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent prior to 1996) and HCPC registration; Or Postgraduate Diploma qualification in Cognitive and/or Behavioural Psychotherapy AND Accreditation with BABCP as a CBT therapist. With either a prior core profession or via KSA route.
