Job overview

Pennine Lancashire is seeking a Health Care Support Worker to join our Frequent Attenders Team, based at the MHUAC at Royal Blackburn Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity and the successful candidate will be part of an evolving service that has the needs of our service users at its heart. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic to come and join a forward thinking, dynamic and constantly developing team.

Main duties of the job

  • Your role as a Support Worker in the Frequent Attenders Team will be to support service users who frequently attend the Emergency Department and/or who are frequently detained under Section 136’s.
  • To work assertively with people within the Locality to enhance their engagement with multi agency services to support them within their recovery. This will involve working collaboratively with other agencies to aid engagement to meet the needs of the service user.
  • To positively promote the independent living of Service Users within the community, to facilitate social and leisure activities for Service Users, and to focus on their direct needs, working across boundaries of care to promote social inclusion, independence and maximise the effectiveness of STR services within available resources.
  • To assist in the provision of quality evidence based practice, providing advice; support and care under the guidance of the Frequent Attenders Case Manager for Service Users and their carers within multidisciplinary setting in a defined catchment area/locality.
  • Support the Mental Health Liaison Team as and when required. This may involve supporting patients in the Mental Health Unit Assessment Centre or at the Emergency Department, supporting/signposting patients who may need help with housing/social inclusion etc.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in mental health care or relevant NVQ level 3 qualification
  • Good level of education. Able to demonstrate competence in written and oral English.
  • To undertake a specialist package of training which will equip the post holder to work safely and effectively in this functionalised setting.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Awareness and understanding of mental health issues
  • Understanding by the post holder of their responsibilities under the Care programme Approach, Clinical Governance, Risk Assessment and Child Protection Legislation & current mental health legislation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good keyboard skills
  • Good organisational and observational skills
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and non-verbal and written.
  • Experience in a mental health setting in a supportive role with service users.
