West London NHS Trust  provides a full range of mental health, community  and physical healthcare services for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.

We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

 

Job overview

West London Forensic Services provide assessment, treatment and care in conditions of medium and low security and community for men and women from London and other parts of the UK.  There is a community Forensic CAMHS (FCAMHS) team within this service.  Local Services provide inpatient and community care for adults of working age and older people and community CAMHS in Hounslow, Ealing and Hammersmith and Fulham.  The Trust acts as a teaching centre for Undergraduates and for Postgraduate Trainees in psychiatry. The forensic service also attracts a significant level of international interest from students and practising clinicians who do short term visiting placements.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant psychiatrist for 12 months in Forensic Psychiatry, to join Lea ward, a 18 bedded Medium Secure Male rehabilitation ward. The post holder will provide leadership and support the Millbrook ward MDT. This is a maternity cover for 12 months with a possibility of extension.

Applicants must be registered with a licence to practice with the GMC and have an approve clinician status with an experience of working in Forensic psychiatry.  CCT in forensic psychiatry is desirable. All medical staff are employed by WLNT. 

The salary range for this post is according to the NHS consultant salary.

Qualifications & Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Use of relevant tools, e.g. HCR20, HONOS
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
  • GMC Specialist Register or within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • MRCPsych
  • CCT in Forensic/General Adult Psychiatry
  • Experience in forensic Community mental health care and / or rehabilitation of forensic patients

Clinical knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and psychiatric risk assessment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to write comprehensive clear reports for multiagency professional networks
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Evidence based knowledge of forensic psychiatry, relevant legislation and multiagency clinical risk management
Desirable criteria
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist Forensic experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
