The role will include supporting the Lead Physiologists for Cardiac Rhythm Management and Invasive Cardiology, and as a training hospital the post holder will be expected to work with and teach junior members of staff and trainees.  The cardiac physiologists at UHS provide two on-call services, one for emergency device checks and one for emergency cath lab procedures.  The successful will be expected to contribute to at least one of these rosters as part of this post.
All physiologists working within EP/CRM are actively encouraged and assisted to undertake BHRS and/or IBHRE exams and are fully supported with their PDP.  We are extensively involved in device trials and research, including becoming the first UK centre to implant the leadless Empower pacemaker in 2022.
CRM device follow-up at UHS incorporates all aspects of post implant care including onsite and remote follow-up of adult and paediatric/ACHD patients.  Devices followed-up range from simple ILRs through to CRT-Ds and subcutaneous ICDs.  We have the largest CIED remote follow-up population in the UK.

Device implants in the cath lab include loop recorders; pacemakers (including leadless systems); ICDs (transvenous and subcutaneous); CRT-P/Ds (CS and endocardial LV leads); complex paediatric/ACHD implants and pulmonary artery monitors.  The CRM physiologists also support the regional lead extraction service and surgical epicardial device implants.

We have 4 dedicated cardiac catheter laboratories (with two specialising in CRM), with an additional lab due to be built in 2024.  There are five Consultant Electrophysiologists (plus two visiting Consultants from other Trusts) and four Heart Failure Consultants, all of whom implant complex devices.  As such, the CIED patient population is set to continue expanding rapidly over the next few years.
