Job overview

The post holder will deliver autonomous patient care on a daily basis. The post holder is required to work at a standard where clinical and diagnostic skills are utilized competently and autonomously. The post holder will work in collaboration with the team to deliver a high quality service in order to meet the health and social care needs for patients attending the service.

Main duties of the job

Autonomously to assess, investigate, diagnose, treat and refer or discharge patients attending the Emergency Department or Minor Injuries Unit, within the parameters of the Emergency Nurse/Care Practitioner (ENP/ECP) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) scope of practice. The post holder will be providing assessment, treatment, care and education to patients from all sections of the community, from infants to the elderly ensuring a high quality patient centred care. The post-holder may be required to work at any site where services are delivered by the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Royal Surrey County Hospital Emergency Department sees approximately 75000 patients every year. To support and enhance the care we provide to patients. We are looking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic band 7 ENP/ECP/EPP to join our dynamic Emergency Department Team.

 

We have introduced dynamic patient pathways to improve patient flow and experience that has resulted in the vast improvement of the department’s performance. Our team is motivated, energetic and we strive to deliver the highest standards of evidence based nursing care. We are passionate about Emergency Nursing and the service we provide our local community.

 

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic Emergency Care Practitioners (ENP / EPP) to work within the Emergency Department at The Royal Surrey NHS Trust. Candidates should be clinical experts who work as autonomous practitioners providing patient-centered clinical care, encompassing the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis, treatment and/or referral and discharge to patients with minor injuries and illnesses.  You will work within locally agreed protocols and Patient Group Directives. Independent Nurse Prescribing would be desirable but not essential.  Successful candidates should have a minimum of 2 years working in an autonomous role in the emergency environment and be an effective communicator with a positive attitude.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Part 1
  • Registered Paramedic
  • Teaching qualification mentorship, ENB 998, City and Guilds 730, SLiPS or equivalent
  • Degree ENP/ Paramedic Practitioner or equivalent (Must include Physical Assessment, Minor Injuries and Minor Ailments/Illness at Level 6 or above)
Desirable criteria
  • Independent Nurse Prescriber

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • IRMER Radiology (XR) or equivalent and experience in radiography interpretation for limbs/minor injuries
  • Can demonstrate experience of wound care management skills including suturing/wound closure and dressings.
  • Up to date experience in Emergency setting of autonomous practice at Band 6 or above
  • Can demonstrate up-to-date clinical credibility / competence
  • Evidence of advanced skills in practice i.e. iv additives, annulation and venepuncture
  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues in acute NHS setting
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling, clinical risk management
  • Evidence of research based practice
