Central London Community Healthcare is advertising for an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 full time Children’s Physical activity and Nutrition practitioner for the Brent Children’s Healthy Weight Service.
The Children’s Healthy Weight service in Brent is looking for a dynamic and creative Physical activity and Nutrition practitioner. The individual will aim to increase physical activity participation levels and support children and their families to make healthy lifestyle choices encouraging a whole family approach.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an individual who is able to work in a collaborative manner with families and able to work independently using their own initiative.
They will be a highly motivated individual who confidently delivers responsive Healthy weight, group and 1:1 individual sessions to children and their families. This individual will play a pivotal and exciting role within an innovative forward-thinking and dynamic team.
This individual will be joining a professional team who is embedded within the 0-19 public health children’s services in Brent. The role will work alongside health visitors, family well-being centre staff and local nurseries.
The successful post holder will be supported in developing skills and knowledge through the Performance Appraisal and Development Review process.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Degree or diploma or equivalent knowledge and experience gained through working in nutrition and/or specialized physical activity
- First Level Degree- Health / Fitness related OR Registered Nurse ( Adult or Paediatric) OR HCPC Registered Dietician OR B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics or Equivalent
- Mentor or practice-based learning training
Desirable criteria
- Minimum NVQ Level 3 qualification in sport /physical activity related subject (or equivalent sport coaching qualifications)
- Evidence of continuing education and training
- REPS/CIMSPA registered
- Postnatal exercise qualification
- NMVQ qualification in sports
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of and confident in delivering group weight management programmes for children and families; or working with children and families on other group programmes / teaching
- At least one (1) years’ experience of working in either a school, leisure or community setting, ideally in a group environment.
- Evidence of significant relevant CPD
- Experience or knowledge of developing, delivering, and evaluating health education sessions with local groups.
- Experience of delivering and promoting physical activity programs in a community environment
- Experience of planning a series of progressive physical activity sessions leading to sustainable community participation
- Experience of working with adults and children in a 1-2-1 and group environment to support positive lifestyle change
Desirable criteria
- Experience of providing or developing health interventions for targeted groups
- Experience in dealing with members of the public who may have communication difficulties
