Gweithio i'n sefydliad

Whittington Health serves a richly diverse population and works hard to ensure that all our services are fair and equally accessible to everyone. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the way we look after our staff.  We aim to employ a workforce which is as representative as possible of this population, so we are open to the value of differences in age, disability, gender, marital status, pregnancy and maternity, race, sexual orientation, and religion or belief.  The Trust believes that as a public sector organisation we have an obligation to have recruitment, training, promotion and other formal employment policies and procedures that are sensitive to these differences. We think that by doing so, we are better able to treat our patients as well as being a better place to work.

Duties of the post

The post holder will be performing a 10 PA (programmed activity) job, with approx. 8.1 PAs for direct clinical care, with 1.9 PAs given for supporting programmed activities initially. The on-call commitment is 1:12 (= 0.5PAs). Consideration will be given to increasing SPA: DCC allocation at job planning and review of non-clinical responsibilities.

There will be some flexibility in the type of lists performed, and these lists can be tailored to an individual’s preference and clinical interests.

The timetable and commitment would be appropriately amended for an individual who wished to work part time, in line with national agreements.

The theatre sessions will include fixed and flexible lists, which are used to cover consultant leave, urgent lists (utilised for cancer surgery and other urgent cases) or trauma and emergency lists.

We are particularly interested in consultants who can work flexibly and adapt to new working practices. This can involve, for example, a session dedicated to pre-operative assessment unit and sessions as “consultant of the day”, in a troubleshooting role, ensuring adequate anaesthetic cover for scheduled lists and emergency procedures on a given day.

The successful candidate would therefore be expected to possess, and maintain to a high standard, a wide range of anaesthetic skills appropriate to all specialities represented at Whittington Health. It is expected that the post holders will adhere to the GMC good conduct and professional standards, as well as those set by the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Association of Anaesthetists for the speciality.

Supporting PAs include time for teaching and training, continuing professional development (CPD), audit and governance activity, personal management including job planning and appraisal and contributions to departmental management. Any timetable agreed with the successful applicants will be kept under regular review and will be subject to annual job plan review to ensure it remains within the 10 PA contract.

The appointee will also be expected to play a role in educating postgraduate doctors and nurses in all specialties. The successful candidates for this post will be expected to participate in undergraduate teaching, including acting as an undergraduate examiner, and support and facilitate research activities as appropriate.

Please see the attached job description and person specification for full details about the post.
