Job overview

The Department of Neurosciences is looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Patient Pathway Manager to deliver strategic and performance-based improvements. Working with both clinical and non-clinical colleagues, both internal and external, you will ensure that elective services are delivered within available capacity using all resources at your disposal and for the benefit of all key stakeholders and service users.
You will have proven experience in managing a diverse team of administrative staff and wide, detailed knowledge of RTT, Cancer and Diagnostic pathways within secondary care. A significant part of this role will be to provide a strategic overview of all specialties within Neurosciences whilst planning for any periods of recovery within set performance metrics.
You will have a strong character and be able to influence decisions within the team to ensure that patients are seen and treated within a timely manner. Experience and knowledge in correct escalation processes and confident in resolving issues within services is essential. Experience with a surgical service is desirable.
This is an excellent opportunity for any candidate to play a huge role in establishing robust systems and strategic improvements for patients who have been referred for specialist advice and intervention. We would welcome applicants who have middle management experience and working knowledge of elective care pathways and are looking to progress further in their career.

Main duties of the job

The Patient Pathway Manager will work in partnership with the Service Manager, managing a defined area of responsibility providing managerial leadership, expertise, and operational support to staff within the area of management. This role will have a particular focus on delivery of RTT, Cancer pathways and NHS constitutional standards. The role will support the wider strategic development of the defined service by providing both operational business support in the development and implementation of the Clinical care groups strategic objectives.

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better. We were the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance in 2023/24; we’re no longer in special measures; and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal. Our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and that our patients are happy with.

Many of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. More than 400 of them are on apprenticeship programmes and we’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We operate from two main sites - King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023.

Patients across north east London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It’ll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
