Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is at the heart of all we do; and it forms part of the ESNEFT’s core activities. The Trust operates and relies on everyone treating each other with dignity and respect, to receive equitable and fair treatment in the implementation of Policies, Procedures and in its Practices, to foster positive work relationships, and finally to act with integrity as a professional within ESNEFT as well as a representative of the NHS as a whole.  The EDI Agenda reflects the Trust values such as Optimistic, Appreciative and Kind. In line with the NHS Long Term Plan, People Plan, People Promise and a Model Employer intrinsic in the Equality Diversity and Inclusion Agenda, we consistently strive to improve, to take the learning into Action for a better ESNEFT.

If you are passionate about patient care and want to develop your skills and knowledge then we are keen to hear from you.

Trosolwg o'r swydd

Applications are invited for enthusiastic, motivated and committed individuals to join our friendly and dynamic cardiology team within the Specialist Medicine Division at Colchester Hospital.

Responsibilities will include clinical work within cardiology as detailed below, demonstrating good leadership and providing supervision for junior staff. There will be involvement in regular teaching programme as well as participating in weekly meetings and monthly audit meetings.

The post has generally been regarded as a tremendously helpful ‘stepping stone’ to a training position either within the highly competitive field of cardiology, or another medical speciality, as there are plenty of cogent learning and developmental opportunities including the chance to write up and publish case reports, reviews and quality improvement projects. Our past registrars have invariably gone on to become highly confident and successful senior doctors.

The post-holder’s main responsibility will be taking a leading role in managing cardiology inpatients. The cardiology team has a high turnover of acute admissions and patients can be unstable. A cardiology ward round begins every day at 9am, led by either the cardiology consultant of the week (COW), a senior specialty doctor, or a cardiology registrar. After familiarisation with the system, the appointee will be expected to take a supervisory role for junior grades of doctor.

There are multiple education opportunities available within cardiology. Previous appointees have had regular transthoracic rest and stress echocardiography training sessions with senior echocardiographers or consultants. There may be opportunities for developing other interests such as cath lab-based skills (running a cardioversion list, exposure to practical procedures).

The post-holder will take part in at least one cardiology out-patient session per week including new patient referrals from GPs and follow-ups.

There will be an opportunity to join the general medical on call rota.

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) provides hospital and community health care . We serve a wide geographical area with a population approaching 800,000 residents. We deliver care services from two main hospitals in Colchester and Ipswich, six community hospitals, high street clinics and in patients’ own homes. We have nearly 10,000 staff, with an annual budget of over £650 million. We are the largest NHS organisation in the East Anglia.

We are building for better care with an exciting capital development programme across our sites – totalling £100million over the next five years.

We are building a new elective orthopaedic centre for ESNEFT at Colchester Hospital. It will be one of the biggest centres in the country and will ensure we can retain complex and low volume cases locally for the people we serve.

We are also now building a £7million specialist interventional radiology and cardiac angiography unit at Colchester.

At Ipswich we are investing £35million in a new Emergency Department and co-located Urgent Treatment Centre, with additional diagnostic imaging kit (MRI and CT). There’s a £5.3million molecular diagnostic laboratory soon to open at Ipswich, and works begins soon for a new Breast Care Centre and a Children’s Unit.
