West London NHS Trust  provides a full range of mental health, community  and physical healthcare services for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.

We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

As a tobacco dependence specialist, the role involves providing tobacco management interventions within West London NHS Trust, including individual and group sessions, promoting smoking cessation services. Collaborating with various agencies and stakeholders, the post holder identifies service development opportunities to meet national and local smoking prevalence targets. Responsibilities include providing specialised behavioural support, advising on nicotine replacement therapy, and ensuring adherence to guidelines. Additionally, the role entails workforce management, liaising with professionals, and contributing to service improvement projects. The post holder is expected to maintain confidentiality, adhere to health and safety regulations, and engage in professional development. Other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Essential qualifications include being educated to degree level or equivalent, NCSCT Smoking Cessation Training in Level 2, and a qualification in Health Psychology, Promotion, Counselling, or related subjects.
  • Essential experience includes working in a mental health service and delivering smoking cessation support. Desirable experience involves working in the statutory or voluntary sector in health-related work, working with mental health service users, and providing evidence-based psychology interventions.
  • The candidate should demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, initiative, and the ability to be proactive. They should be well-organised, able to coordinate and prioritise tasks, and work to deadlines. Other desirable skills include the ability to support strategic planning and policy development, work sensitively with diverse backgrounds, and effectively deliver and evaluate training. Knowledge of smoking cessation and mental health approaches, along with familiarity with relevant national and local policies and strategies, is necessary. Good IT skills, including using electronic patient databases, and experience in reporting and auditing are also desirable.
  • Finally, the candidate should be able to work collaboratively in a team and establish positive working relationships.
