Clinical Fellow in Cardiomyopathy/Heart Muscle Disease

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

Barts Health supports the Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.

Trosolwg o'r swydd

As part of a very successful training programme at the Barts Heart Centre, the Cardiomyopathy service is pleased to offer a 12 month clinical fellowship in inherited and acquired heart muscle diseases.

Barts Heart Centre is home to the merged cardiac units, which were recently based at The London Chest Hospital, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and The Heart Hospital. It is the heart attack centre for the region and provides interventional cardiology services, specialist cardiac imaging, electrophysiology services including device implants and ablation therapy for arrhythmia, grown up congenital heart disease, heart muscle disease and heart failure services. This post will provide exposure to a wide variety of Inherited and Acquired Cardiomyopathies and advanced specialist training.

This post provides training in inherited cardiac conditions (ICC) for a senior (ST3+ level or post-CCT) cardiology fellow and is ideal for cardiology fellows at the end or shortly after the completion of their training who would like an out-of-programme training opportunity in Cardiomyopathies.  We expect post holders to undertake the same educational obligations as their colleagues.

North and East London has some of the most dynamic and talented cardiovascular experts nationally and internationally. Clinicians from Barts Health NHS Trust, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) and further afield have worked together to create a single specialist centre for cardiovascular disease to cover all our local communities. Our brand new state of the art cardiovascular centre – Barts Heart Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital opened in early 2015. The new service allows us to bring together our existing unique experience and research activity. We are working towards increasing our understanding of and ability to address the root causes of cardiovascular diseases by growing the number of patients who get the chance to take part in clinical trials and research
