As a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist, you will know what it means to achieve this by leading a team. Striving for a better service leads to a better you. 

As a specialist in working age psychiatry, you will be leading in the delivery of care in the inpatient ward. You will be part of well-resourced clinical teams. The ongoing input from other colleagues and day on call cover will also continue; this therefore, guarantees protection for the SPA sessions.

Main duties of the job

We look forward to recruiting a dynamic, flexible, innovative, trustworthy, supportive, efficient and inspirational Consultant with vast knowledge and experience in the practice of General Adult Psychiatry in different settings.

 

Excellent communication and teaching skills, proven competence in formulation, establishing diagnoses, ability to influence comprehensive treatment plans and working effectively with patients, carers and multidisciplinary teams are some of the key attributes that will determine success as Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry for a 10-bed working age adult (H1) ward for female patients (with crisis team sessions if working full time). 

 

You will have your own office space and will be supported by a medical assistant and/or medical secretary. 

 

This is a substantive and full-time post. However, as noted above we would be happy to consider applicants available on a part time or fixed term basis.

Applicants should be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the point of interview. Candidates should be suitably qualified, including eligibility for Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
  • Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT
  • Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Approved Clinician Status
  • Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered) with a licence to practice
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
  • Has undergone training in educational supervision
  • Has undergone training in appraisal

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry
  • Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation
Desirable criteria
  • An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working
  • Wide clinical experience in general adult psychiatry in different clinical settings
  • Experience of Clinical Audit
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies
  • Experience in service management or development
  • Experience in remote consultations. Interest and enthusiasm in developing tele-psychiatry

  • High level of clinical skills
  • Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders in Adult Psychiatry
