Job Title: Cancer Support Specialist – Maggie’s Manchester

Salary: £40,014 - £52,751 DOE

Location of appointment: Maggie's Manchester, The Robert Parfett Building, The Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, 15 Kinnaird Road, Manchester, M20 4QL

Full Time, 37.5hrs/week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm

Annual Leave: 27 days plus 9 public holidays

 

We have an opportunity for a Cancer Support Specialist to join the Maggie's Manchester centre to actively support our visitors to understand and articulate their cancer-related concerns.

 

The post is open to full-time applicants on a permanent basis.

 

You will have a nursing degree (or equivalent training), current state registration and at least three years of post-qualification experience within an oncology nursing or related setting.

 

You will have broad and up-to-date clinical knowledge in the field of cancer and be comfortable using narrative and strong interpersonal skills to assess cancer support needs and elicit concerns.

 

You will also be well organised and emotionally sensitive while also resilient, as well as able to manage the demands of ongoing emotionally intense work.

 

Your responsibilities

·       Help individuals, families and groups engage with, and utilise, Maggie’s psychosocial programme of support through ongoing work with them.

·       Provide person-focused, care support and a commitment to working as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team.

·       Liaise with colleagues to ensure appropriate internal referrals of centre visitors.

·       Lead on delegated aspects of facilitated psychosocial and psychoeducational components of Maggie's programme.
