Main duties of the job

A Technician’s primary function is to capitalise on their experience and increased level of training to accurately predict and assist in the allocation of resources available to the department in the execution of tasks and activities. The Technician must therefore be aware of the resource limitations / availability and find the most efficient and effective path to delivering tasks / activities within boundaries. The Technician will collaborate with clinical colleagues to gain a comprehensive understanding of both the engineering / estates risk and impact of an identified issue, as well as the clinical risk and impact – to best advise the works officers on the prioritisation of tasks and coherent allocation of resource. As such Technicians are provided with a high degree of autonomy, responsibility, and influence.  The role of Technician is one of a supervisor, and as such requires understanding of resource management, personnel management, and personnel development, having responsibilities within all three elements.  The Technician may from time to time be required to be involved with the direct delivery of maintenance tasks, activities, and requirements, as well as to feedback progress, issues, advice, and information relevant to the effective operation and running of the department in line with its processes and requirements.
