Senior Clinical Psychologist
North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust has an opportunity for the right candidate to join our existing Mental Health Support Team (MHST), working alongside a team of Education Mental Health Practitioner’s and Senior Mental Health Practitioners to deliver, high-quality; outcome-informed, focused, evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing, mild to moderate anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties.
You will be expected to provide clinical leadership to the MHST and support the development of the team alongside other colleagues. You will be expected to support the team by providing supervision, mental health assessments and evidence-based mental health treatments to children, young people and their families. Finally, to contribute where appropriate, to the service development and consultation to the wider MDT.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a developing service with high expectations for improving the outcomes for children and families in North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

- Offer highly specialist psychological advice, guidance, consultation, training and supervision to staff within the service and other agencies where appropriate
- Support the Team Lead with roll-out of the service and management of junior staff
- Promote the emotional and mental health of children and young people through the provision of training in the early intervention and management of children and young people’s mental health difficulties
- Develop, deliver and support other staff with the delivery of child mental health training and interventions across a range of agencies and professionals
- Deliver role across school settings, both face-to-face and via digital offer where appropriate
- To have knowledge of the 2014 Children and Families Act in regards to children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND)
- To demonstrate an understanding of the graduated approach to support SEND
- To adhere to statutory guidance including input to Educational Health Care Plans.

- The post holder may have the opportunity to undertake a CYP IAPT supervisory course to become a supervisor for the Education Mental Health Professional (EMHP) at UCL depending upon existing qualifications and experience and course start date
- Responsible for recognising the potential for or signs of client harm, abuse or neglect, including poor clinical practice, reporting all such concerns and taking all reasonable steps to protect the client. Responsible for identifying and reporting concerns regarding the safeguarding of children who may be at risk
- Undertake highly skilled evaluations and make decisions about treatmen
- Communicate in a way which recognises difference and ensures that people feel included and their individual communication needs are met
- Communicate effectively with all professionals involved in the client’s care including all members of the CAMHS MHST team, education providers, general practitioners, Social Services, voluntary agencies, user/carer groups , to maximise the quality of service delivered to clients and their families
- Analyse complex client information, derived from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with the client, family members and others involved in the client’s care.

Qualifications

- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
- HCPC registration as a clinical/counselling practitioner psychologist
Experience

- Working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings.
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, inpatient settings.
