We are currently recruiting Bank Facilities Service Assistance to support Wincanton Community Hospital.

In this role, you will be an integral part of our facility's operations, contributing to the smooth running of essential services. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, ensuring that our hospital maintains its high standards of cleanliness, safety, and functionality. From assisting with maintenance duties to supporting administrative tasks, you will enjoy a varied workload that keeps you engaged and motivated.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will be in the housekeeping and catering departments.

The role involves cleaning departments within the Hospital such as inpatients, outpatients, X-Ray, toilets, meeting rooms, offices as well as cleaning on the ward. You’ll also help to prepare patients meals using a cook freeze service and support cleaning within the main kitchen. There will also be opportunities to train in other areas of the facilities team.

You’ll help to play a key role in our ongoing fight against hospital acquired infections by ensuring that the ward is cleaned on a regular basis to a consistently high standard and make a valuable contribution in the wider care team that supports a patient during their time in hospital.

You’ll be joining a friendly and supportive team of Facilities Service Assistants, some of whom who have been working at the hospital for 15+ years so you will be in very good hands.

Previous experience would be an advantage but is not essential, as full training and support will be provided.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Generic worker:

Specific duties will be discussed at interview to meet service requirement.

You will work closely with the Facilities Housekeeper, Facilities Team Leader and other Facilities Staff, Matron, Facilities Head of Catering and where applicable some Heads of Departments.

The post holder will be directed by the Facilities Team Leader to carry out a range of duties for the needs of the service.

The cleaning of the work environment following a planned and methodical approach in order to ensure all areas are included.

Examples of areas cleaned are toilets, bathrooms, and patient’s single rooms, ward areas, patient’s day rooms, and lounges, offices, meeting rooms, external patio areas and the immediate external vicinity of entrances, outpatients departments, kitchens and sanitary areas.

The post holder will be require to resolve fault finding on equipment used or change in cleaning schedules.

            Participate in training as directed by the Facilities Team Leader. This would include training in cleaning techniques and mandatory training such as Fire Safety, Moving & Handing, COSHH, and Infection Control.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Facilities in house training program to be completed within agreed time scale
  • Experience of either catering / cleaning / portering in a commercial environment
  • Car driver or otherwise mobile with appropriate business insurance and ability to travel to other Trust sites.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of infection control
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety
  • Knowledge or understanding of basic IT or a willingness to learn
  • Previous experience effectively working within a team
