Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen to work as part of a friendly team responsible for the co-ordination, organisation and management of an elective waiting list.  You will be required to help maximise capacity and ensure excellent patient care within an exceptionally busy and highly pressurised work environment. 

You will need to be meticulously organised, motivated and have the ability to approach daily work in an ever changing and sometimes challenging yet exciting environment.

Main duties of the job

To co-ordinate patients into the appropriate theatre or endoscopy list by:

  • taking into consideration a suitable surgeon, endoscopist, anaesthetist and equipment is available plus ensuring 'special requests' are made
  • informing patients of all essential booking information to enable the patient to attend prepared for their admission
  • meeting the patients social needs and availability

Scheduling patients involves working with the wider team to balance adherence to national and local wait time standards, clinical priority and service requirements. 

To attend team meetings and communicate effectively daily with all grades of staff to build strong working relationships.  

To proactively and efficiently ask and answer patient and staff questions and queries in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications, training and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience to the role
  • Good standard of education up to GCSE or O'level (A-C) Standard
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office applications such as Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills via telephone, email and face-to-face
Desirable criteria
  • Supervisory/ management experience
  • Management of elective waiting lists or similar
  • Computer/Word processing qualification or EDCL
  • Good Knowledge of the Trust Electronic patient record system or similar
  • Experience and understanding of waiting lists
  • Basic Knowledge of medical terminology
