Principal Clinical / Counselling Psychologist Complex PTSD Service

Band 8B

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to participate at a senior level in the delivery of a relatively new clinical service for adults experiencing complex PTSD. The service has been commissioned in Northamptonshire in recognition of an unmet clinical need in local pathways, especially between Talking Therapies and secondary mental health services. The complex PTSD service delivers specialist clinical interventions, and promotes trauma-informed approaches in the wider service and across mental health pathways.

The postholder will provide highly specialist psychology service to clients, at the same time as offering advice, training and consultation, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of Trust and team policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

Equally important is the ability to develop innovative practice and play a lead role in the developing service. You would need to contribute at a senior level to the vision for this new service, and work closely with partners in primary and secondary care. This will require you to exercise leadership skills within the Team and to promote the service externally. We are looking for an innovative and resilient clinician with evidenced training and supervision expertise who can operate with confidence and credibility.  Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and negotiate successfully are essential.  You will contribute to developing and monitoring the clinical outcomes and impact of the service and will have a flexible approach to changing patterns of service delivery as needed.

Working for our organisation

Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust was rated as “Outstanding” by CQC in 2018 and is a great place to work. We are proud of the Psychology provision within the Trust, and feedback has consistently been that we have a well-developed Psychology network in the Trust which offers a strong sense of professional identity, support and strategic influence. Psychology and psychological approaches are highly valued in the Trust, and Psychologists have the opportunity to shape clinical and organisational strategy as well as provide clinical services. We believe that supporting and involving our staff means that they enjoy their work more, and that our clinical services are better as a result.

The successful applicant(s) would receive professional support and be professionally and clinically accountable to and managed by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist Service Lead for the Complex PTSD service.  The postholder will also be expected to have links with the North of the county, supervising colleagues who work from Corby and Kettering.

Northamptonshire is a pleasant area with a mix of rural and urban locations and is within easy distance of other key locations in the Midlands with excellent rail and road links.
