Scarborough Hospital Catering Department requires an enthusiastic Catering Operatives to work mainly in the Patient Satellite areas of the Catering Department, but could be asked to work in the Main Kitchen, Dining Room.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to be adaptable and flexible, in order to work variable hours. You must be able to use initiative, be self-motivated and have strong interpersonal and organisational/time management skills,
Applicants must be able to work under pressure, prioritise their own workload and be able to carry out physical tasks.
Main duties of the job
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Delivering food to and taking patient food to the wards areas
- Using ward ovens to regenerate food
- Keeping the kitchen areas clean
- Monitoring food temperatures as part of HACCP
- Washing up and other general cleaning duties.
- The role also could involve working in cold rooms to pick patient food and also working in pot wash.
The ideal candidate will have catering experience, be fantastic with customers, a good team player and able to work on their own unsupervised. Full training will also be provided. Enhanced rates apply when working at the weekend.

Person specification
Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Good basic education which includes reading and writing plus basic numeric skills
- Basic understanding or a willingness to complete appropriate qualifications and training which includes: Food Hygiene Level 2
Desirable criteria
- BICSc Qualification/NVQ Level 2 in cleaning/catering or equivalent
Experience & Knowledge Required
Essential criteria
- Able to read, write and converse in English
- Flexible approach to work
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working in the NHS
- Able to use small and large pieces of equipment such as Regeneration oven/dishwashers/Floor machinery
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
