Job overview

My name's Keir Brisbane and I am the new Service Manager for the Youth Service.

In our service we support young people (aged 14-25 years) who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties. We have enthusiastic and skilled staff who provide the support that is needed - and they are motivated to make a real difference to young people, their families and carers.

As an employer, I and Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust are particularly committed to enabling our staff to do the very best they can through support and training, as well as opportunities for progression. We are confident, therefore, that the right candidate will have a real chance to make a positive impact to the lives of young people in Norfolk.

As a service we are striving to meet the challenges that we are facing, and to create a working environment that is sustainable, effective for our young people, and fulfilling for our staff.

We are looking to recruit a positive and creative psychological therapist to help to develop our new assessment and treatment approach.

This will involve offering a flexible, drop-in clinic – providing assessments, and brief therapeutic interventions to support Young People to lead better and lives, and to more confidently manage their mental health.

This is an opportunity to take a leading role in developing a truly innovative service that will improve the lived experience of our young people.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will sit within the new and innovative assessment and rapid treatment model within the Central Youth Teams. You will work in a fast-paced, short-term service model providing first contact assessments to Young People.  You will also provide treatment options such as ‘Single Session’ Therapy, Brief Motivational Interviewing, Guided Self-Help and group interventions.

It is expected that the post-holder will also be responsible for a small case-load; offering meaningful  therapeutic interventions to Young People that make a longer-term difference.

This role will require a dynamic practitioner who is able to work autonomously, leading on changes to the service, as well as working collaboratively with colleagues on an ongoing basis.

We are looking for an experienced practitioner with a skill-set to enable excellent assessment, formulation, goal-setting and short-term treatment, as well as a keen attention to safeguarding, and multi-agency working. We’re particularly interested in hearing from candidates with training in one or more of the following modalities: CBT, CAT, EMDR, DBT, IPT, or MBT.  We will also support ongoing supervision, CPD and clinical responsibilities needed to maintain accreditation.

Working for our organisation

Here at NSFT we pride ourselves on being a welcoming, talented, friendly and supportive team who like nothing better than sharing experiences and learning from each other. In addition to ongoing training and development opportunities, we are committed to providing an environment in which you can thrive.

Why work for us? We have challenges as a Trust, but we have ambitious aspirations, are pushing ahead with exciting transformation work and we need dedicated individuals to support us on our journey. We have strong, established nursing networks coupled with an exceptional leadership team who will ensure you are truly cared for and cared about.

Why Norfolk and Suffolk? The people here are warm and welcoming, you’ll never be far from the beautiful coastline or Broads National Park. We’re an hour and a half away from London and have an international airport in Norwich too. Our villages, towns and cities are packed full of history, independent cafes, shops and theatres. We have excellent shopping, eating out, top ranking schooling and affordable house prices too.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The candidate we seek should have a passion for collaborative decision-making in care planning and an ability to empower choice in goals-led treatment planning, as well as a drive to innovate.

We are looking for people to join us with enthusiasm, optimism, fresh ideas and energy. Experience in being a key player in service-change or project work would also be an advantage.

We will provide specialist training to support the successful candidate to excel in this role.
