Pharmacy Technician – Pharmacy Production Unit
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our team within the Pharmacy Production Unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital.
The Production Unit provides a comprehensive aseptic preparation service, including the preparation of injectable systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) and parenteral (intravenous) nutrition for neonatal and adult patients across the health board.
This post will involve organising the Production service’s day-to-day activities, manufacturing patient specific doses and undertaking accuracy checks of aseptically prepared products.
It is an exciting time for Aseptic staff as the Transforming Access to Medicines (TRAMS) NHS Wales programme to set up a shared Pharmacy Technical Service for Wales has recently been approved. TRAMS will transform how some of the most innovative and life-saving medicines including cancer therapies, intravenous antibiotics and parenteral nutrition, are prepared.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve coordinating workload and supervising staff within the Pharmacy Production team. Working as part of the team , the post holder will help maintain and develop the technical aspects of the service to ensure the items prepared meet the needs of our patients.

Qualifications

- NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services - Accredited Checking Technician (as per National Education Framework)
- Medicines Management Qualification including drug history taking/medicines reconciliation
Desirable criteria
- Accredited Product Approver (as per National Education Framework)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in training and supervision of trainees
- Broad knowledge and experience of Hospital Pharmacy practice
- Knowledge of principles of GMP
Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing staff

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
