Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

Job overview
We would like to invite applications for one full time, 10PA post of Consultant Paediatric Neurophysiologists to join our busy team. We are based in Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful applicant would join the existing 2 Consultant Neurophysiologists who, together, jointly cover 9 PA’s. Most of their work is via remote working
The post holder would provide a broad range of Clinical Neurophysiology investigations for children across Merseyside and surrounding areas. We provide a range of EEG activity, Video Telemetry both for diagnostic purpose and those on the epilepsy surgery pathway (NorCess) along with Ambulatory EEG with video. We also provide an EMG service.
One of the main duties of this role is to provide weekly EMG clinics and reporting of EEG, Video Telemetry and Ambulatory EEG(with video)
Also the successful candidate will be able to support the Neurophysiology services at Alder Hey for the Northern Children’s Epilepsy Surgery Service (NorCESS). The successful candidate would be expected to provide high-quality Neurophysiology services as part of the nationally commissioned network between Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH). They will work alongside our existing Consultant Neurophysiologists and also closely across site with Professor Gonzalo Alarcon who is the Consultant Neurophysiologist leading the NorCess work at RMCH
Main duties of the job
- Carry out weekly EMG clinics including urgent EMG activity
- Reporting of EEG, Video Telemetry and Ambulatory EEG (with video). This will be shared with existing Cons. Neurophysiologists.
- Review and reporting of NorCESS video EEG telemetry
- Support/review/report of stereotactic EEG ( if experienced)
- Support/ review/report of intraoperative monitoring and mapping for epilepsy surgery (if experienced)
- Attend/present at regular NorCESS MDT
- Attend/present at national CESS MDT
- Development of NorCESS neurophysiology service along with the Neurophysiology team
- Provide multimodal Intraoperative monitoring procedures outside the epilepsy surgery service ( if the post holder has experience)
At Alder Hey we have three dedicated Video Telemetry beds (two for diagnostic/epilepsy surgery work up and one 256 VT system for stereo-tactic EEG.)

Professional qualifications & experience
Essential criteria
- Has the recognised professional qualifications
- Substantive experience in working in Pediatric Clinical Neurophysiology including EMG
- Substantial experience in video Telemetry and pre surgical evaluation for Epilepsy surgery
- Experience in Invasive monitoring with functional stimulation
Desirable criteria
- Experience in Intraoperative monitoring for tumour resection and Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR)
- management experience
